India: Kashmir launches free bus services for women

In Kashmir, free bus services are opening doors to education and freedom for women. With safer transport and better connectivity, more girls are returning to school and pursuing financial independence.

00:00I have seen many cases in my life, even with my friends, many girls have left me to study.

00:18Because they didn't have money, if they could afford education, but traveling was very expensive.

00:26They couldn't afford any kind of money.

00:29So now, these girls are coming in front of education.

00:33Whether they are financially independent, they are coming in front of them.

00:45Women folk are confined to Kashmir.

00:49They don't have much independence.

00:51They can come freely.

00:54But when there comes such initiatives,

00:57there is confidence that we have to prove ourselves.

01:02So there is this cultural, social factor.

01:10There are also cultural inhibitions.

01:12The idea that a home is supposed to be a woman's place.

01:15A kitchen is supposed to be a safe place.

01:17And not the public.

01:19This distinction between this private and public sphere.

01:22Where private is supposed to be for the woman.

01:25Public is supposed to be for the men.

01:27This is also, you know, again, this is fundamentally why women lack the kind of mobility that we want them to have.

01:33And the people who have.

01:34And the people who live in the far-flung areas,

01:43live in the far-flung areas.

01:44They live in the far-flung areas.

01:47They just want to go to the online areas.

01:48And they don't have necessary transportation.

01:49And as they were running in crowded bus,

02:01these services are using safer.

02:04Women Empowerment has a good initiative for women.
