Today, Rupert's Game of Cricket leads him to help Constable Growler in Rupert and the Air Smugglers.
00:16
There's a little bear like you've never seen before, who's a lot of fun.
00:23
Children everywhere, go to love him more and more, he's the number one.
00:30
There's a million stories to be told, all the things that he's done.
00:36
And he's gonna share them all with you, so come along.
00:44
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone sing his name.
00:51
Rupert, Rupert the Bell, everyone come and join.
00:56
Rupert, Rupert, Rupert, in all of his name.
01:00
There now, those windows look a bit cleaner, don't they, Rupert, says Mr. Bear.
01:13
He steps back to admire his handiwork.
01:16
Rupert puts down his cloth.
01:18
Yes, Daddy, I think Mummy will be pleased.
01:21
Let's put these things away, and then we'll all go to the village, and I'll buy you that cricket ball I promised you, Mr. Bear tells Rupert.
01:30
Whizzo!
01:30
Now, Rupert, don't lose that ball, will you, says Mr. Bear.
01:38
Oh, no, Daddy, I'll take great care of it.
01:41
Hello, Constable.
01:43
Good morning, Mrs. Bear.
01:44
You haven't seen any aeroplanes around your part of Nutwood lately, have you, asks Constable Growler.
01:50
He tells them that he's had a message from headquarters about a band of air smugglers operating in the area.
01:57
That sounds exciting, sir, says Rupert, interested.
02:01
I'll look out for them.
02:02
That was a good one, Rupert, says Bill.
02:09
Oh, yes, it's gone.
02:11
Edward stops, because he's seen a small plane up in the sky.
02:17
Come on, let's go and find the ball, says Rupert.
02:20
We might see the man on the parachute, too.
02:22
He landed in the same direction.
02:25
They all hurry to the other side of the trees.
02:32
It must be around here somewhere, says Rupert, searching hard.
02:37
I think it was over this way, says Podgy, looking behind a bush.
02:43
Let's look over by these rocks, Rupert, suggests Bill.
02:47
I wonder where the man on the parachute went to.
02:51
He can't have gone very far away.
02:54
What's this, Rupert?
02:57
Why, that's the parachute, Bill.
02:59
It looks different on the ground, doesn't it?
03:03
He must be here somewhere.
03:06
Rupert and Bill search among the rocks.
03:09
Edward is looking in a bush when...
03:12
Help! Help! Help! Help!
03:18
Keep still, Podgy, and I'll pull you out.
03:23
Oh! Oh! Oh!
03:25
Oh! That's better. It was very dark in there, says Podgy, thankfully.
03:33
What are you holding, Podgy?
03:36
Well, this is Rupert's ball. I found it.
03:39
But this piece of rope was in the hole, too.
03:42
They both look at the rope and see that it leads back into the rabbit hole.
03:47
That's strange. I wonder what it's doing.
03:52
Let's pull it and see.
03:56
Podgy and Edward pull.
04:00
Rupert and Bill are still searching,
04:02
when suddenly,
04:04
one of the rocks moves up on a hinge.
04:08
Bill, look!
04:09
The man must have gone down here, Rupert says.
04:13
Come on, Bill.
04:14
We must see if we can find him.
04:22
Oh! Oh!
04:25
Oh, I don't think there's any end to this rope, Edward.
04:28
I can't...
04:30
Well, any more...
04:33
No.
04:33
We'd better let it go and see where Rupert and Bill are,
04:36
because we've found the ball, says Edward.
04:40
As they let go of the rope,
04:42
the rock starts to close up again.
04:46
But Rupert and Bill are still down there.
04:53
Rupert, we're shut in, exclaims Bill.
04:56
And it looks much too heavy to move.
05:00
Let's try, suggests Rupert.
05:03
They push and push, but nothing happens.
05:06
Oh, no, it's no use, Bill.
05:11
Rupert looks around.
05:13
Look!
05:15
There's a tunnel leading from the bottom of the steps.
05:18
And it's not dark.
05:19
Someone's left the luck down there.
05:21
Come on, let's see where it goes to.
05:23
Oh, I don't like it much.
05:32
Where it leads, they do not know,
05:35
nor what they'll see.
05:36
But on they go.
05:37
As they're round a corner,
05:42
the tunnel opens out into a large cavern.
05:45
There's another lamp burning,
05:47
and it shows them all sorts of things.
05:50
Boxes full of jewels, watches, cameras,
05:53
and some packing cases,
05:55
which somebody has been busy making.
05:58
Look, there's some stairs up there, Rupert.
06:03
Bill's anxious to get out.
06:05
Yes, we must get back to Constable Growler
06:08
and tell him about this.
06:09
I think these must be the air smugglers.
06:12
Oh, let's hurry, says Bill.
06:16
Shh!
06:16
I can hear footsteps above us.
06:20
They look up
06:21
and see that the stairs finish under a trap door,
06:25
which is shut.
06:27
Oh, it's too high.
06:29
We'll never reach it,
06:31
exclaims Bill miserably.
06:34
We could if we put one of these boxes under it,
06:36
says Rupert.
06:37
Come on, help me carry it.
06:40
Ah, now one end each,
06:42
and we'll get it up these stairs,
06:44
says Rupert.
06:46
Right, here we go.
06:51
And they move it to the top.
06:56
Shh, quietly.
06:59
Phew.
07:01
Bill found that exhausting.
07:03
Now, I'll climb up first,
07:05
then I can help you out.
07:09
Rupert can easily reach now.
07:12
He pushes up the trap
07:13
and sees a man reading a newspaper.
07:23
Bill!
07:24
The air smuggler is up here.
07:26
We'll have to try and get out of the trap
07:27
and make a dash for the door.
07:30
Carefully, Rupert pushes up the trap
07:33
and manages to crawl out.
07:41
Oh, it's only the newspaper.
07:52
Gotcha!
07:53
He pounces on poor Bill.
07:55
Bill, but Rupert has gone.
07:58
He's run from the door.
08:00
We've done it, Bill!
08:01
Oh!
08:02
He turns round and sees that Bill isn't with him.
08:06
Bill!
08:07
He calls softly.
08:08
He runs back to the window and peeps in.
08:11
There he sees poor Bill in the hands of the smuggler.
08:14
What should he do?
08:15
He looks towards the door
08:17
and sees that there's a key on the outside.
08:20
He creeps up
08:21
and quietly shuts the door
08:23
and then turns the key in the lock.
08:27
Ah!
08:28
Now to find Constable Growler.
08:31
Hold on a minute.
08:32
A plane, you say?
08:34
But, sir,
08:34
a man has got Bill
08:35
and I've locked them in a hut.
08:38
Come on, then.
08:38
You can tell me the rest on the way,
08:40
says the constable as they hurry along.
08:43
Rupert stops suddenly.
08:45
Oh!
08:46
He might try to get out through the tunnel.
08:48
I think we'd better go there first.
08:51
Well, if you say so,
08:52
says Constable Growler.
08:54
But it's not all clear to me yet.
08:56
He follows Rupert quickly.
08:59
I wonder what's happened to Rupert and Bill,
09:02
says Pudgy worriedly.
09:03
I don't know.
09:05
This is a funny rock.
09:07
It keeps making thumping noises and shaking,
09:10
says Edward.
09:10
Yes, agrees Pudgy.
09:15
Ah!
09:16
Here's Rupert anyway.
09:18
But he's got Constable Growler with him instead of Bill.
09:23
Hello, Rupert.
09:24
Where have you been?
09:25
inquires Pudgy.
09:27
We found your ball ages ago.
09:29
Never mind that now,
09:31
says Rupert.
09:32
We've caught an air smuggler
09:33
and that sounds like him trying to get out.
09:36
What do you mean?
09:38
inquires Pudgy.
09:39
Well,
09:40
that rock
09:41
is the secret entrance to a tunnel
09:43
and the smuggler
09:45
is trying to escape from it.
09:46
But with you two sitting on top,
09:48
he's having a bit of difficulty.
09:52
Edward and Pudgy jump off the rock,
09:55
which opens up
09:55
to reveal
09:56
Bill, the smuggler
09:57
and Bill.
10:01
Right.
10:02
You're under arrest, my man.
10:04
And another air smuggler
10:06
was caught
10:06
as he landed his plane
10:07
near Nutwood.
10:10
Oh, good.
10:11
They must have caught
10:12
the other one, too.
10:14
Sounds like you've had
10:15
a nice game
10:15
of cricket, dear.
10:16
Rupert, Rupert the Bell,
10:35
everyone's singing his name.
10:40
Rupert, Rupert the Bell,
10:42
everyone's come and joined
10:46
in all of his names.
10:49
Rupert, Rupert the Bell,
10:53
everyone's come and joined
10:56
in all of his names.
11:03
Rupert.
11:12
Rupert, Rupert, Rupert.
11:29
Rupert, Rupert, Rupert, Rupert.
