Greenpeace activists arrested after blood-red dye poured into US embassy pond

Six people have been arrested after Greenpeace activists poured hundreds of litres of blood-red dye into the US embassy’s pond in protest against arms sales to Israel.

00:00So, we understand Greenpeace UK's co-executive director, Will McCallum, was among those arrested on Thursday.

00:11This was announced by the environmental campaign group itself.

00:16Greenpeace said the protest on Thursday was to quote-unquote highlight the death and devastation

00:24caused in Gaza as a result of the U.S.'s continued sale of weapons to Israel.

00:32Of course, activists are said to have poured hundreds of litres of red dye into the U.S. embassy's pond.

00:39We understand the containers of dye were delivered to the embassy on bicycles with trailers disguised as delivery bikes.

00:50We've heard reaction from the U.S. embassy, which said the protest had damaged a 1.5 million gallon water supply on the property,

01:02adding that it had wasted a local environmental resource.

01:07A U.S. embassy London spokesperson said while the U.S. embassy supports the right to peaceful protest,

01:16we strongly condemn any acts of violence or property damage.

01:21The Metropolitan Police said there was no breach or attempted breach of the secure perimeter of the U.S. embassy,

01:31as the pond was accessible via a public footpath.

01:35This follows a similar protest last week when Greenpeace activists scaled a building outside the foreign office.
