00:24Patrick De Souza is in the center of the news.
00:30The Philippine Air Force and the U.S. Pacific Air Forces will train for two weeks under the COPE Thunder Exercises 2025
00:38that started yesterday at Clark Air Base, Pampanga and was held at Air Maneuver and Tactics.
00:47Here, the F-16 fighter jet of the United States was launched and was sent for training.
00:54As part of the COPE Thunder Exercises this year, the F-16 Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft of the United States
01:02was approved last week by the U.S. State Department for its possible sale in the Philippines
01:09as part of the Multi-Role Fighter Jet or MRF Acquisition Program for the Philippine Air Force.
01:16According to the U.S. Defense Security and Cooperation Agency, the 20 new F-16 jets are worth US$5.5 billion
01:26and other necessary equipment.
01:28There is no official decision or confirmation if it will be bought.
01:33But for the pilots of PAF, it is a good opportunity to practice like the COPE Thunder
01:39to become familiar with the more modern fighter jets.
01:42We are not comparing aircraft versus aircraft here.
01:45So we will validate our tactics, again, our tactics, techniques and procedures on how we operate.
01:51This is in preparation for us in the future in acquiring multi-role fighter aircraft,
01:56much capable multi-role fighter.
01:58The F-A-50 fighter jet of PAF was also launched again.
02:01It was three weeks under the grounded status after one of these crashed
02:06in a military operation in Bukidnon last month and was hit by two pilots.
02:12Our F-A-50 fleets have been inspected very well.
02:15It went through a very thorough inspection and we have proven them airworthy.
02:21700 members of PAF are on board.
02:24Aside from the F-A-50, their Super Tucano and Black Hawk Helicopters will also be used.
02:32On the other side of the U.S. Air Force, there are 200 people.
02:36Some of them made a homecoming because they have Filipino blood.
02:40It is a great honor that we were given the opportunity to return to the country that we grew up in
02:47and serve in this capacity as far as further strengthening the interoperability.
02:55We want to strengthen the partnership between the U.S. and the Philippines that has been strengthened before.
03:04For the first time, international observers will have COPE Thunder Exercises
03:10from the Air Force of Malaysia, Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia.
03:15In order to strengthen our defense capabilities,
03:19President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. assured the support of the AFP Modernization Program.
03:26They want to complete the AFP Horizon 3.
03:31It depends on our budget if it can be approved by the Congress.
03:37We will do everything we can if we have the budget.
03:46The government also reiterated that these exercises are not against a particular country
03:52but a part of strengthening our defense.
