Putra Heights inferno: S'gor govt offers RM2,000 monthly rental aid for fire victims for six months

The Selangor state government will provide RM2,000 in monthly rental assistance for six months to each family affected by the Putra Heights gas pipeline fire, to help cover housing costs while their homes are being repaired or rebuilt.  Speaking at a media conference on Monday (April 7), Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said affected homeowners can choose to stay in smart rental temporary housing units, and use the RM2,000 assistance to cover the rental fees. 00:00The government has decided today that they will cover the cost of housing for those who are displaced.

00:18If we estimate that all 600 of these houses will be rented out while their homes are rented out,

00:26we will give them a period of 6 months with a rent cost of RM2,000 per month.

00:32For that, the government will spend around RM7.2 million to cover the cost of housing for those who are displaced.

00:45As for the rent, we will still offer it, but the money will be distributed.

00:52So, if they are staying in a rented house or a rented house that has been established,

00:58they can use the money or contributions that have been given,

01:04including the rent payment that we will start to pay off in the near future.

01:10Maybe next week, we will pay it off and we will give it to all the heads of housing

01:16so that they can use the money to rent out their homes for the time being.

01:21And after 6 months, some of them may have returned home because the cost of housing is small,

01:27except for those who are forced to total loss because it may take a little longer.

01:34As an example, we have ABNB for 78 units of houses.

01:40For 87 units of houses in Yemen, we can start to cover the cost.

01:45If they are interested, we will give it to them, especially those who are facing a house that is considered a total loss.

01:54For 83 units of houses, especially those who are facing a total loss?

01:58That is a total loss. We will cover the total loss first.

02:01But if there are other people who are interested, we can do that as well.

02:03Because some of the total losses are due to other reasons,

02:05such as being able to stay at a relative's house or choosing to stay at a relative's house, etc.

02:11We will cover it.

02:12So, before this, we want to cover the cost of housing.

02:14Some people complained about how far it is and so on.

02:17So, we decided that it would be better to give the rent money.

02:20If they are interested in staying in a heritage park, they can stay there.

02:23If they are interested in staying at the nearby ABNB, they can stay there.

02:28ABNB will provide 2 months for free.

02:31The rest will be paid by the government through the funds that I mentioned earlier,

02:36which is about 7.2 million rupiah.

02:39So, there are currently 3 initiatives to help the local government,

02:44ABNB, APHS, to help with the rent from the government?

02:48We will be one.

02:50Because the houses that we offer for rent can be rented.

02:55But when we pay the money, we will not give it for free.

02:58We will use the money for the rent.

03:00Because the rent in that area is estimated to be around 1,000 ringgit.

03:05Especially in the houses of the new Puala Sungai Village.

03:08We have seen the estimate.

03:10So, if we put 2,000, I think it is equivalent to the loss.

03:16So, everyone has the same option, either to find their own house or ABNB?

03:20ABNB, a rental house, or the houses that we offer.

03:24So, the total loss will be the government's?

03:28That's the next stage.

03:29We will first evaluate the cost of the renovation or repair of the house.

03:37And I think there is a commitment from the government to fix it.

03:44But we will first estimate the value.

03:46Maybe they will take time, up to 2-3 weeks, to do the evaluation.

03:51Part of it has been seen by the government as well.

03:55Because looking at the cost of wiring that has been destroyed and so on,

03:58it will not be much different from the estimate.

04:01So, can the house still be used or can it be renovated?

04:06We will see.

04:07Because if it is not safe to be renovated, we will have to demolish it.

04:11That's why I asked Dato' Johari Anwar, with the help of relevant agencies,

04:16maybe the government can also help,

04:18we will make an estimation or an evaluation

04:21on the cost of the renovation or repair of the damaged and destroyed houses.
