So yeah, we are at Newcastle United's media centre where we've just been speaking to Eddie Howe
00:04
ahead of Monday's Premier League trip to Leicester City. Only one place to start and that is of
00:09
course on the injury front. Newcastle picked up a few knocks from that 2-1 win over Brentford
00:15
on Wednesday. Alexander Isaac, Kieran Trivia and Joe Linton. So starting with Alexander Isaac,
00:21
the top goal scorer, the first Newcastle United player in Premier League history to score 20
00:28
goals in consecutive seasons. Will he be able to continue his fine goal scoring form at Leicester
00:32
on Monday? The answer from Eddie Howe is we'll have to wait and see. He's being assessed. He
00:38
actually picked up his groin issue in the warm-up. Felt that then, of course, got throughout 70 minutes
00:45
before being replaced by Callum Wilson. So Eddie Howe says it's a new issue but of course Alexander
00:53
Isaac has had trouble with his groin in the past. So yeah, Newcastle will assess him carefully and
01:03
hope to get him ready for Monday. But of course, they've got Callum Wilson and Willa Sula in
01:09
backup and maybe if Alexander Isaac was to miss a game then on paper against a relegation-threatened
01:14
Leicester City team, that would probably be one of the games you would pick. But of course,
01:20
you want Alexander Isaac fit and available. But yeah, the answer on that is we'll have to wait and see.
01:25
No definitive update given on Kieran Trippier either. He went off with a cramp feeling.
01:30
Pretty much got through the full game against Brentford before being replaced again with the
01:34
game being on Monday. We'll have to wait and see on him. The third player being Joe Linton from
01:40
that game. He is carrying a knee issue. You could see in the game his knee was heavily strapped.
01:45
There was a time in the second half when he went down, needed treatment from the physios,
01:50
really looked to be struggling but managed to get through the game and I asked Eddie how about
01:54
Joe Linton and I think it's one of them where Joe Linton will want to carry on and battle on
01:59
because of the type of player and warrior that he is. So yeah, expect him to be involved even though
02:06
he is evidently carrying something. Now, the fourth injury which I didn't mention at the start
02:13
and maybe one of the biggest as well is Anthony Gordon now. I think people forget Anthony Gordon
02:18
is actually carrying a bit of an injury because he's been banned for the last three games. Of
02:23
course, picked up that red card against Brighton, missed the trip to West Ham,
02:27
the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool and the final game he's banned was against Brentford
02:31
in midweek. So he is now back available, legible for UCAS United but it's unclear if he will be
02:37
involved on Monday because that injury picked up for England. So really heavy bruising around his
02:42
thigh and groin area. Eddie Howe described it as really, really bad. So he still hasn't trained
02:49
yet up where he's getting close to getting back to recovering from that injury but Monday might
02:55
come too soon based on what Eddie Howe has said. But of course, Newcastle have a more than capable
03:01
player to come in for Anthony Gordon, the player that has been playing for the last three games
03:05
now, Harvey Barnes. He's probably, I would say, as much as he's scored fantastic goals in UCAS United,
03:13
he's probably in his most consistent spell as a UCAS United player, getting those games in his
03:18
preferred position on the left-hand side and I have to say I think he's been really, really good
03:22
not just the tackle-wise but the fact that he's worked really, really hard as well defensively
03:27
doing it, doing a defensive job that Anthony Gordon would usually carry out. So even if Anthony Gordon
03:31
was available for the trip to Leicester, I would still stick with Harvey Barnes because I think
03:38
based on merit, Harvey Barnes has certainly earned his place in the starting XI. And of course, Harvey
03:43
Barnes will be coming up against his former club so if Newcastle United's players are all fit
03:50
and available, no fresh injuries from the game previously, then I'd expect to see the same
03:56
starting XI. But as I say, given the game is still three days away, there's no different
04:01
of answer on Newcastle United's injury situation yet. It's more hope than actually knowing what
04:07
the case is, I'm sure. And we'll learn more over the next couple of days as we head into that Leicester
04:13
City game. But yeah, another player I want to touch upon before I end this video, just
04:17
talking about Kieran Trippie, I want to focus on the other full-back which is Tino Liveromento. I
04:22
think he's been incredible, outstanding at left-back. Of course, moving over after Lewis Hall's
04:28
season-ending injury now, losing a player of Lewis Hall's quality, say probably one of Newcastle's
04:34
players of the season in terms of his position overall in the Premier League has probably been
04:39
the best left-back of the season. Or maybe Kyrgios at Bournemouth and Robinson, of course, at Fulham.
04:46
But yeah, losing him should have been a massive blow for Newcastle United and it still is,
04:50
but I don't think that's been quite as felt as what we thought it would be because of Tino
04:55
Liveromento's form at left-back. I've made a joke this week that Newcastle have got the best
05:01
left-back in the Premier League in Lewis Hall and the best makeshift left-back in the Premier League
05:05
in Tino Liveromento. So yeah, he's faced some really difficult opponents in the last three
05:10
games, of course, coming up against Mo Salah, Jared Bowen and Brian in Bournemouth and Anthony
05:18
Gordon. Tino Liveromento just came out on top in all those games. I think he's added real attacking
05:22
dynamic down that left-hand side as well, set the tone with his surgeon runs forward. So yeah,
05:30
heading into the Leicester City game, Newcastle will need to perform better as a team. I'd say
05:36
there's been some good really individual performances, but we'll have to perform better
05:40
as a team because look at the Brentford result. The Brentford result was fantastic, but the
05:45
performance wasn't, but it doesn't matter. Newcastle found a way to win after two weeks
05:50
of celebrations on Tyneside. They showed a professionalism to get through, but now they
05:54
head into the business end of the season where with Champions League football on the line,
05:58
going to places like Leicester, who by the current league table will be relegated, Newcastle must be
06:05
winning those games if they are to finish inside the Champions League qualification spots.
