E-bikes banned on TFL train network

E-bikes have been banned on the Underground, DLR, Overground, and Elizabeth line after safety concerns.

00:00So, we have heard from a number of different people welcoming this decision to ban non-folding

00:10e-bikes on the TfL train network. Unsurprisingly, the Train Drivers Union, ASLEF, welcomed the

00:17move after they pressed for a ban on safety grounds. In response to the ban, the Mayor

00:24of London, Sir Sadiq Khan, said the safety of Londoners is my top priority. And while

00:31most e-bikes are safe, there have been a number of incidents where non-foldable e-bikes have

00:40caught fire on the transport system. He claims this issue caused him great concern. As previously

00:49mentioned, Train Drivers Union, ASLEF, were firmly calling for this ban and even suggested

00:56they would ballot their members for strike if it wasn't to come into place. Their calls

01:04for a ban came after an e-bike caught fire on a platform at Rainers Lane tube station

01:10in North West London last month. The fire was put out by crews from the London Fire

01:17Brigade, who also commented in response to the ban, saying they have been seeing an e-bike

01:25or e-scooter fire every other day on average. They said we welcome this move by Transport

01:33for London following their detailed safety review, as it acknowledges the risks that

01:41we know e-bike batteries can pose.
