Rain and mountain snow ongoing across the Pacific Northwest

After thunderstorms in Washington and Oregon on Wednesday night, more rounds of storms are on the way through the weekend, with snow coming for high elevations.

00:00So we have rain into Seattle and Portland, any semblance of thunderstorms should be mainly on the way out.

00:06It's mainly rain and just some mountain snow at this point, but we do have some areas under winter weather advisories here.

00:12Western Oregon into parts of California and then also this is going to fuel that northern edge of the Midwest here.

00:20Snowstorms, snow and ice there, winter weather advisories associated with that are in effect.

00:24But we also have some strong winds out there, high wind warnings buffeting the coast of Oregon

00:28and into the mountains there, also into parts of Northern California into the Siskiyou's as well.

00:33So it's a pretty active storm system and this is going to continue to bring widespread rain and some mountain snow

00:39tonight through Friday, kind of the final stage of this storm.

00:42We started warm with record warmth in advance of it, we're going to end colder.

00:46Tonight we're dealing with widespread rain in Portland, 50 for your low, 47 into Medford with showers.

00:52Helena still 41 with showers there, Bismarck staying above freezing as well.

00:55So the warmth has been displaced into the plains, but Friday still wet.

00:59We got rain and this is when the snow levels drop low enough for a transition over to snow and accumulating snow at that.

01:06Now, Snoqualmie Pass, you're only around 3,000 feet and change.

01:09You're not going to see much more than maybe a light dusting of snow mixed with rain.

01:12Stevens and White Pass is 1 to 3 inches of snow for you.

01:15Santee and Pass could see 6 to 12 inches of snow though.

01:18Willamette Pass, 5 to 10 inch snowfall.

01:21Government Camp, 2 to 4 inches of snow there in northern parts of Oregon.

01:25So winter's not over there.

01:26And then Saturday we begin to see this roll east and it's going to be a colder, snowier time into parts of the northern Rockies.

01:33Another storm follows this one.

01:34This is going to be a little more robust even farther south into California on Sunday into Sunday night with some mountain snow as well.

01:41So the break on Saturday is only going to last so long there in the Pacific Northwest.

01:45Meanwhile, farther south you can see we're dealing with dry weather across the San Joaquin Valley.

01:50Friday, still dryness south of I-80.

01:52A couple of lingering showers into San Francisco.

01:54A little bit of light rain at times into the high ground of Utah.

01:57But with snow levels high, it's mainly rain as opposed to snow until we get into Saturday.

02:01And that's when some places like Alta and Snowbird will see a little taste of some spring snow for the ski crowd.
