'Dear Prime Minister, help us retrieve our savings from PMC Bank.'
Thousands of account holders of Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative Bank were thrown into disarray after the RBI stopped the institution from engaging in any business for six months and put restrictions on the withdrawal limit. Manali Narkar is one such depositor. She spoke to Brut India about the problems she was facing due to the crisis and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take prompt corrective action.

00:10My whole family's savings are there in the PMC.
00:13How am I going to survive?
00:15This is a very severe situation that we are facing.
00:19This is not an aira-gera bank, it is a fourth-ranked co-operative bank in India.
00:25If this is happening to me right now, it can happen with anybody.
00:29I am a biology professor.
00:31I have eight accounts.
00:33My whole family is having accounts in this particular bank, PMC bank.
00:38It's been 27 years my family is having accounts in this particular bank.
00:44We have trusted this bank so much.
00:46But what do we get in return?
00:48On Tuesday, we got a message that,
00:50at 9 o'clock in the morning,
00:52you are no longer able to access your account.
00:55You can just withdraw Rs 1,000.
00:57Then, how will we survive with Rs 1,000 for six months?
01:02People who are 85 years old,
01:04people who are 75 years old,
01:06who have kept all their earnings there,
01:10all their deposits are there.
01:12How are they going to trust you?
01:14RBI is making a statement.
01:17RBI is saying,
01:19our banking system is very safe in India.
01:22How? And what?
01:24Like, what are you talking about?
01:26Myself, I have my wedding.
01:28I have planned everything and
01:30invested so much
01:32to what I am getting right now.
01:34Not even able to access a certain amount of money,
01:37that I could do something for myself and my family.
01:40I want to appeal to the Prime Minister.
01:43When demonetisation happened in 2016,
01:46you said your money is valuable,
01:49it is white money.
01:50Please invest in banks.
01:52We heard that.
01:54And what did we get in 2019?
01:57It is white money, it is hard earned money.
02:00It is our money and we are doing protests
02:03and begging for our money.
02:05It's been 15-16 days,
02:07we are doing a silent protest.
02:09And no media is covering,
02:11so it is not very shown to other people.
02:15Right now, we are there around 6,000 members
02:18from Mumbai itself.
02:20There are people who are selling off their jewellery
02:22just to survive on a daily basis in Mumbai.
02:25It is not easy to survive here in Mumbai
02:28with certain amount of money,
02:30as daily expenditure is this much.
02:32Dear Prime Minister, Finance Minister, Chief Minister,
02:35please look into it.
02:37It's a request to you all,
02:39please cover this PMC bank crisis issue,
02:42as soon as possible.
