Only a fool wouldn't see the second wave coming.
00:02
You must always, always assume the worst when it comes to COVID.
00:06
The situation is incredibly serious right now.
00:09
There is no point downplaying it.
00:12
Dear society, we need to talk.
00:16
My name is Dr. Munjal Kapadia and I'm a practicing gynecologist at Nama Healthcare Mumbai and
00:22
Amaban Hospital, Nafsari.
00:23
Healthcare providers around the country are frustrated right now.
00:27
It took us almost a year to get the pandemic under control, but for whatever reason, it's
00:32
back to haunt us.
00:33
The situation is incredibly serious right now.
00:36
There is no point downplaying it.
00:37
There is no point in damage protection.
00:40
It's important to acknowledge this situation and work hard to now make sure that majority
00:45
of the country is vaccinated.
00:47
Only a fool wouldn't see the second wave coming.
00:49
It has happened to all countries and even in December and January when the cases were
00:56
at an all time low while driving to work, we could see people out on the road as though
01:00
COVID is non-existent.
01:03
We could see masks on the chin.
01:04
We could see people walking around without masks, not maintaining social distancing.
01:09
We saw people partying.
01:10
We saw people traveling.
01:11
We saw people indulging in high risk behavior.
01:14
So it was expected.
01:17
We just didn't know when it would come to knock on our doors and sadly enough now it's
01:22
here.
01:23
Right there nature are going to mutate.
01:26
It is their means of survival.
01:30
Even now, even with the double mutant virus, you will still have more mutants coming into
01:35
the population in the future.
01:39
We need to safeguard ourselves from it.
01:41
The only way you can prevent a virus from mutating is to prevent it from getting a host.
01:47
Mask wearing is essential.
01:50
Getting vaccinated is essential.
01:53
We need to break the cycle.
01:54
We need to stop giving this virus an opportunity to mutate.
02:00
My family got COVID last year, me, my wife and both my children.
02:06
Fortunately both the children had very mild versions of the illness.
02:10
My wife had loss of taste and smell.
02:12
I had a slightly more serious version of the illness where I needed to take injectable
02:17
medication.
02:18
For anybody assuming that this disease is just like a flu and it's just five days of
02:27
being at home and quarantining oneself, it's not true.
02:31
I always believed that even if I did get the virus, it would be a mild version.
02:35
Let me tell you that they were very scary two weeks for me and for my family.
02:42
I was genuinely worried.
02:43
I know healthcare workers have been more susceptible to this illness.
02:48
You must always, always assume the worst when it comes to COVID.
02:52
You cannot predict who will have a worse version of the disease.
02:55
You cannot predict who will have a mild version of the disease.
02:58
The only thing you can control is to prevent its transmission.
03:01
Please, please, please wear a mask.
03:04
Even around people you know, it is just not worth getting it.
03:08
People are under a misconception that getting vaccinated and two weeks after that, you're
03:13
free to not wear a mask or to roam around or to meet people.
03:16
No.
03:18
Even if you have documented antibodies, you can still get COVID.
03:21
The only thing vaccination prevents in most of the cases is death and the chances of severe
03:28
illness.
03:29
You can still be a carrier of this virus and you can still transmit this virus to those
03:33
who are very, very vulnerable.
03:35
It's incredibly frustrating, professionally and personally.
03:38
We were just about getting back to normal professionally.
03:43
We were starting to do elective cases again.
03:46
We were starting to see our patients routinely in the clinics.
03:49
Everything has taken a beating.
03:51
And right now there's no other choice because all the health care resources must go towards
03:55
saving lives.
03:56
Even on a personal front, it's incredibly difficult.
03:59
Fortunately, health care providers have been vaccinated, most of them, but our families
04:04
have not.
04:05
All of them are still waiting to get vaccinated.
04:08
So coming home is still a problem.
04:09
Despite vaccination, we know that we can still be carriers for them.
04:12
Personally, I can speak for myself.
04:14
I don't want to get even a mild version of the illness and I don't want to pass it on
04:17
to my kids or to my family members, many of whom are vulnerable.
04:21
And I can say this with certainty that a lot of doctors are scared for the very same reasons.
04:27
Please wear a mask.
04:28
Please get vaccinated.
04:29
Please don't fall for WhatsApp rumors, which tell you things like you cannot take it during
04:34
your periods or that it will make you infertile.
04:36
It does nothing of the sort.
04:38
Please get vaccinated.
