Former Perth Lord Mayor Basil Zempilas appointed as WA Liberal leader

Broadcaster- turned- Perth Lord Mayor, Basil Zempilas, has become the new leader of the WA Liberal party, after the state election. Mr Zempilas was elected unopposed at a party-room meeting yesterday.

00:34The previous Liberal Leader, Libby Metham, did not recontest for the leadership, she

00:38announced that last week, clearing the way for Basil Zemplis, who has been a leadership

00:42aspirant for some time now.

00:45His deputy will be the previous leader, Libby Metham.

00:48Basil Zemplis, for his part, spoke about a reset for the party under his leadership and

00:53that it's now time to listen to the community and really engage with those disillusioned

00:58voters that have turned away from the party since 2017.
