The Greens have elected a new leader – Queensland senator Larissa Waters – as the party seeks to move on from its disappointing election results. With all party leaders are now in place and almost every seat decided the new parliament is starting to take shape.

00:00Through autumnal shades of red and yellow emerges the new leader of the Greens.
00:09I am just so thrilled to have had the support of my colleagues.

00:22The new leader notably putting climate change and nature on top of her list of priorities.

00:34Whittled down to just one lower house seat, it's in the Senate where the Greens will wield their influence.
00:40It is really exciting that for the first time we have two women at the helm of the Greens' ship.
00:47Larissa Waters is the Greens' consensus candidate, selected by her colleagues unopposed.
00:52She's flagging a more constructive approach in the next parliament and placing a greater emphasis on the environment.
00:58But like the new Liberal leader, she leads a team with very different views on what direction the party should take.

01:47These are collective processes but also very much acknowledge the contribution that Ed Husic has made and for that matter that Mark Dreyfus has made.
