"We can grow a strong base of young people who will take their places, who will have different values, who will respect the environment"   She is encouraging young people to resist the world leaders' environmental inaction. Here is activist Jane Goodall's message.

00:00And I'm an obstinate kind of person, and the more I get hit, the more it's like one of those Russian dolls.

00:06I say, I'm not going to let you defeat me.

00:23You know, we can look around the world today and see what's happening,

00:26see some of these figures who've reared up and they're harming the environment and harming society and risking war.

00:33And we can't actually go and fight them, but we can grow around them,

00:38grow a strong base of young people in our Roots & Shoots program,

00:42growing up who will take their places, who will have different values, who will respect the environment.

00:48One of the things we try to do, particularly with the younger children in school,

00:52is to make sure either that they can get out into nature, not Africa or places like that,

00:58unless they're in Africa, but just into some park or botanical gardens.

01:04And even if we can't do that, because sometimes it's really difficult in very poor areas to get children out,

01:13but we can bring nature into the classroom.

01:16If they don't actually get out there, they're never going to appreciate it.

01:22You started off with that quote, only if we understand can we care, and if we care will we help,

01:27only if we help should all be saved.

01:30And so any way we can to get young children out into nature, any way we can.

01:37And so it's like nature, everything is interconnected,

01:42and they're linked with each other around the globe,

01:45and they're beginning to understand the color of your skin, your culture, what you eat,

01:50it doesn't really matter because inside we have the same human heart,

01:54our blood is the same, our tears are the same, we are a family.

01:58And if we can't stop this fighting, this terrible, terrible fighting that's going on now,

02:04in so many parts of the world, what future for you talk about your grandchildren?

02:11So it's not just the animals we're losing out on right now, it's our future in so many ways.
