Hello, welcome to your latest weather update from the Met Office. Changeable conditions
00:05
are likely to continue as we head through the rest of the weekend, all thanks to an
00:08
area of low pressure situated just to the south of the UK, bringing various weather
00:12
fronts that bring some outbreaks of rain. However, into the new working week, we see
00:15
a ridge of high pressure developing from the west. A few weather fronts just toppling over
00:19
the top of that high pressure, so a bit more of a focus for some cloud here. But for the
00:23
majority of us, that area of high pressure brings some more settled conditions, so some
00:27
dry weather and perhaps some sunshine. Back to the rest of Saturday though, and still
00:31
a lot of wet weather to get through before we get to that area of high pressure. Plenty
00:35
of rain across the northern half of the UK, particularly across eastern parts of Scotland,
00:39
northern parts of England, where it could be quite heavy at times. Any showers we see
00:42
across central areas today gradually merging to longer spells of rain. A little drier across
00:47
parts of Northern Ireland, western parts of Scotland, and the very far south as well.
00:51
But with plenty of cloud around, that does mean quite a mild night to come. Temperatures
00:55
in the south perhaps holding up into the double figures in places. So quite a mild, damp and
01:00
quite cloudy start for many of us on Sunday morning. The rain that we see across the northern
01:04
half of the UK gradually starting to ease as we go through the daytime. Some sunshine
01:09
across parts of Northern Ireland, western parts of Scotland, and across the south-east
01:12
too. And in the south-east where we see that sunshine, likely to see some showers bubbling
01:16
up through the afternoon. These again could turn quite heavy in places, perhaps some hail
01:20
and thunder mixed in, so perhaps some localised flooding across the very far south-east through
01:24
Sunday afternoon. Still quite a lot of cloud around though, but it will still be quite
01:29
a mild day. Temperatures in the south 17, 18, perhaps 19 degrees, and even in the north
01:33
10, 11, or 12 degrees. So feeling pleasant where we do see that sunshine. As we then
01:38
go through Sunday evening, any of those showers across the south-east gradually move their
01:43
way offshore, so turning a lot drier for most of us as we go through Sunday evening and
01:47
into the start of Monday morning as well. Clear skies developing across parts of Northern
01:51
Ireland, parts of Scotland, so likely to turn quite chilly here, but remaining mostly
01:55
cloudy across much of England and Wales into the early hours of Monday morning. Where we
02:00
see that cloud persisting, likely to be a little bit milder overnight. Not quite as
02:03
mild as we saw on Saturday night, but temperatures generally holding up in the high single figures.
02:08
But where we do see those clearer skies, perhaps a touch of frost with temperatures falling
02:12
closer to zero. So a bright start across Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland on Monday morning,
02:17
plenty of sunshine on offer as we go through the morning. That cloudier start though across
02:21
England and Wales, we see that cloud gradually starting to fizzle away as we go through the
02:25
afternoon. So some sunshine developing here, maybe the odd one or two isolated showers.
02:30
Sunshine turning hazier though across parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland as we see
02:33
this weather front arriving across the north-west. Perhaps some heavy downpours across north-west
02:37
and parts of Scotland through the afternoon and temperatures perhaps down a touch compared
02:41
to what we saw over the weekend, 12, 13, 14, maybe 15 degrees in the south and 11 or 12
02:46
degrees further north. That weather front slowly sinks its way southwards as we go through
02:51
Monday evening with high pressure then developing behind, so turning much more settled for all of us.
