00:00On this week's edition of First Things First,

00:02as a very smart lady, Sue Finlay once told me,

00:05you can't have enough Frankie.

00:08I caught up with Frankie Dettori

00:10and basically just wanted his plan moving forward

00:14for the rest of the year and asked him,

00:16where did that suntan come from?

00:17Oh, morning love, how are you?

00:26Morning Zoe, I'm good.

00:27Look, my office.

00:29It's fabulous, isn't it?

00:30What's not to like, right?

00:31You're looking pretty tan, where have you been?

00:33I've been to Cabo in Mexico for my wife's 50th birthday.

00:40Three of my kids came over from England,

00:42so we had a couple of days.

00:44Beautiful, we celebrated in style

00:46and yeah, what a lovely place.

00:48So life's treating you good.

00:49So what are your plans for the future?

00:51Everyone wants to know where Frankie's going.

00:53I gather you're going to Dubai.

00:54We just saw Newgate work, you look really good.

00:57Yeah, Bob keeps me well away from him.

01:00I don't think I, I never rode him in the mornings.

01:03As you know, he fulfilled one of my ambitions

01:06to win the big cap, so I love those dearly.

01:10Last year I thought it could have been my Kentucky Derby,

01:12I was unfortunately had an injury,

01:13but yeah, our system go, he's going to Dubai

01:16and yeah, looking forward to it.

01:20Yeah, I'm going to go next week.

01:23And then what are your plans for the summer?

01:26Then I come back here,

01:28it's the Santa Anita Derby, early April.

01:31Then I think we have a little bit of a break here,

01:33so possibly Ron Anderson, my agent,

01:36said that I could end up in Keeneland

01:39and you know, try to, really,

01:41I'm really trying to find those

01:42for the first Saturday of May.

01:44That's my main ambition.

01:48You know, a lot more racing coming up,

01:52good key pointers for the race.

01:56So I got to keep my eyes well peeled for that.

01:58And then we'll see in the summer,

02:02could be Del Mar or could be Saratoga.

02:06I'll leave that up to Ron Anderson, my agent,

02:08but you know, I'm fully committed

02:11to do the full season here, so.

02:13If you had a choice, Saratoga, Del Mar?

02:16I've never been to Del Mar.

02:18You've never been to Del Mar?

02:19No, I've been to Del Mar for the British Cup,

02:20but that's not different.

02:22So, you know, I'm very flexible.

02:25I traveled all my life and now it's just me and my wife,

02:29so we don't have the kids to worry about.

02:31So I'm whatever my agent sends me, I'll go.

02:35So I'm looking forward to explore

02:36and yeah, and enjoy myself, really.

02:39I'm really enjoying it.

02:42So far, it's going so really well

02:44and may long continue, Zoe.

02:46No regrets?

02:48No.

02:49What about this winter?

02:49Can we expect you back here this winter?

02:51I mean, are we planning another two or three tours

02:54of Frankie in Southern California?

02:56At the moment, I committed here.

02:58I'm going to see here, it's in the US.

03:01I have a three-year visa, so depends, you know,

03:06how my legs are keeping up.

03:08I have no plan to retire.

03:10I'm enjoying it and, you know, I can't see so far ahead

03:14at the moment, you know, my plan for this year

03:16and, you know, if things are going well,

03:18I'm going to carry on.

03:20Could you imagine even riding in the Derby,

03:22the Kentucky Derby?

03:23I did once in 2000.

03:26It was an amazing experience.

03:28And yeah, look, it is the race.

03:33It's the race that even people not in the sport

03:38are familiar with.

03:39So, you know, being in the lineup

03:42is like being a winner already.

03:45Then to have a horse with a chance, be even better.

03:49Yeah, that's my main goal at the moment.

03:51Has anyone called you from Europe, from England

03:54to try and get you to maybe go back

03:56for some of the big races there?

03:58At the moment, I can't see past Dubai

04:02or, you know, this summer here.

04:05So I have, you know, I'm focusing 100% in the US.

04:12I want to show everybody that I committed.

04:15I'm not going to start going back and forward.

04:17I'm happy here and yes, I don't want to lose the business.

04:20So I want to mainly stay and do the best I can here.
