00:00This March, as the nation celebrates Fire Prevention and Women's Month,

00:05women firefighters in Biliran Province are leading the charge to make their community fire safe,

00:11breaking barriers in a traditionally male-dominated field.

00:14Alette Reyes from Philippine Information Agency, Eastern Visayas, tells us more.

00:23Lady firefighters of the Bureau of Fire Protection in Biliran Province

00:27are leading the agency's campaign to achieve a fire-safe province

00:30as the nation observes the dual celebration of Fire Prevention Month and National Women's Month this March.

00:36Fire Officer 3 Cyrille Rosales, Chief of the Community Relations Unit of BFP Biliran,

00:42said firefighting is breaking gender barriers with the BFP welcoming female firefighters,

00:47proving that fire service is not just for men.

00:50Rosales said lady firefighters in the Provincial Fire Bureau

00:54are leading this month's fire prevention campaign with regular conduct of inspections of structures

00:59within their area of responsibility, information dissemination activities

01:03to prevent fires and save lives and properties in the communities.

01:07The lady firefighters of BFP Biliran also urged residents to contact their office immediately

01:13for instant response during emergencies instead of focusing on capturing videos first.

01:19Although we at BFP are intensifying the dissemination of our hotline numbers,

01:27maybe it's still not enough, but we are doubling our efforts.

01:32Hopefully, if there is a fire, please call the nearest fire station.

01:39With more inclusivity in recruitment, training, and leadership,

01:42which is a prime call in the celebration of Women's Month,

01:45the number of women firefighters in the Philippines is expected to grow.

01:50The BFP continues to promote gender equality,

01:53making firefighting a more accessible career for Filipinas.
