00:00
And we're closely looking at some of these storm reports.
00:03
New confirmations, a third EF4 has been confirmed.
00:06
This one by the National Weather Service in Baton Rouge
00:10
and New Orleans.
00:12
That was one of the Mississippi tornadoes
00:13
that they have analyzed as an EF4.
00:17
So we're up to three of them, sadly.
00:19
And as we head into tomorrow, more mild weather
00:21
there for the southeast, but tracking some big changes
00:24
on Wednesday.
00:25
Well, it was a very deadly and destructive weekend
00:27
for much of the US.
00:28
The graphic shows you three straight days
00:30
of storm damage, beginning on Friday
00:31
with tornadoes, wind-fueled fires in the central US
00:34
before stretching into Sunday with severe storms
00:36
in the northeast.
00:37
Unfortunately, at least 42 people by last count
00:40
have died following the powerful storm system that
00:42
ripped through the central and southern United States.
00:45
Those storms, which included violent tornadoes, wildfires,
00:47
and dust storms, have left widespread devastation there.
00:51
Widespread devastation.
00:52
There have been over 900 reports of damage
00:54
since Friday, including dozens of tornado reports.
00:57
900 reports there overall.
00:59
That's a lot of wind out there.
01:01
Well, things are going to improve for us,
01:03
but we're just easing into that now.
01:05
And New York City, saying goodbye to the recent rain.
01:07
That's right.
01:08
Let's go and take a live look here at New York City.
01:10
You can see a little bit of sunshine
01:12
starting to peak through the clouds.
01:13
Not quite as overcast as what we were tracking earlier, Jeff.
01:16
But overall, we're going to see some more moderate conditions
01:20
here across the northeast.
01:21
We still have some rain for some areas,
01:22
but overall, a better forecast looking forward.
01:25
Absolutely.
01:25
And that back edge of clouds kind of lurking,
01:28
but it's making a run into the city here
01:29
as the sun begins to set here.
01:32
We have a little ways to go, but you can clearly
01:34
see the back edge of these clouds.
01:36
That's what we're looking at as we
01:38
are looking west into North Jersey from that New York City
01:40
perspective.
01:41
And as we take a look at the radar here,
01:44
we have some lingering rain into southeast New England.
01:46
Again, the last place to see this
01:47
would be Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket, and Cape Cod,
01:50
and then also up into Maine.
01:51
This is the area that we'll see some lingering rain
01:54
through the night in coastal downeast Maine
01:56
with a little bit of light snow up
01:57
into parts of northern Vermont, far northern New Hampshire,
01:59
and into parts of the Adirondacks at times as well.
02:02
Current temperatures across the northeast,
02:04
we've really had a bit of a setback
02:06
here as we populate the map with the numbers.
02:08
You can see readings as low as 34 into Buffalo.
02:10
We're going to really bounce back nicely soon, but not yet.
02:13
And on the warmer side, we have Virginia Beach, 54 there.
02:17
That's quite a bit cooler than we had been, though.
02:19
So again, a lot of 30s, 40s, and some low 50s on the map.
02:23
But we have a warm spell building in.
02:24
We're going to look forward to this.
02:25
Here's some footage from another one
02:27
of our AccuWeather employees in Ferguson Township,
02:30
just west of State College, PA.
02:32
Look at the wind across that field.
02:34
Just incredible.
02:35
This was just straight-up straight-line wind.
02:36
Somebody might assume it was a tornado.
02:38
In this case, straight-line winds.
02:40
Local fire department that covers the State College area
02:42
responded to 46 fire calls over just a 24-hour window,
02:47
and about half of them were just within two hours
02:49
of the storm, lots of trees and wires down.
02:52
Here you can see Tuesday, pleasant weather
02:54
in the New England states, warming up nicely on Wednesday.
02:56
How warm do we go?
02:58
Well, we're looking at a big warm-up here,
03:00
80 in Pittsburgh, 80 in Charleston,
03:02
low 60s in New York, 52 into Boston.
03:05
That's not bad.
03:06
But 80 in Charleston, that really stands strong.
03:09
And then we have a cool-down coming.
03:11
Damien, this is ill-timed.
03:12
Spring officially begins Thursday morning,
03:15
just as a cold front tears into the interior
03:17
with some rain showers, even some wet snowflakes
03:19
on the backside of this for the beginning of spring.
