Hello, here's your latest weather update from the Met Office. I'm Marco Pitania. We've got
00:04
plenty of fine and settled weather across the UK at the moment, all thanks to high pressure
00:08
dominating. But with that high pressure, there's quite a bit of cold air trapped below it.
00:11
But over the next few days, notice the high starts to drift away towards the east and
00:14
south-east of the UK. That opens the door to a much milder south-easterly flow. And
00:19
towards the end of the week, that could also allow weather fronts to start approach from
00:22
the south and west, introducing more unsettled weather by the end of the working week.
00:26
Looking at things in more detail now for the overnight period, and we've got a weak weather
00:29
front pushing south and westwards across England and Wales, bringing a fair bit of
00:33
cloud here, some patchy rain as we go into the overnight period. The clearest skies tonight
00:37
generally reserved for the north and west of Scotland, and here we'll see the coldest
00:40
temperatures too, dipping below freezing here, giving a widespread frost. In fact, by the
00:44
morning on Monday, we could see temperatures in some rural spots down to minus five Celsius.
00:49
Across England and Wales though, with more cloud around, the frost here will be more
00:52
patchy, and certainly in towns and cities, temperatures just about holding above freezing.
00:56
As we go into Monday itself then, the sunshine towards the north-west will tend to fade as
01:00
we go through the day, as clouds start to increase from the south-east. And generally
01:04
speaking, across many southern and western parts of the UK, there will be a fair bit
01:07
of cloud around, still a chance of a few showers down towards the south-west of England, and
01:11
the clearest skies going into the afternoon are likely to develop across the east and
01:15
south-east of England as we start to import some drier air from the near continent.
01:19
Despite the sunshine though, it's going to be quite a chilly day once again. South to
01:23
south-eastly flow, only lifting temperatures to around about nine or ten Celsius at best,
01:28
perhaps peaking down towards the south-east very locally at 11 degrees, 11 will be 52
01:32
in Fahrenheit. As we go into the evening and through the overnight period, the cloud will
01:35
tend to push away north-westwards as drier air moves in from the near continent, so all
01:40
parts seeing much clearer skies as we go into Monday night. But we will pay the price though
01:44
for those clearer skies, turning quite frosty across many parts by Tuesday morning. Notice
01:48
those blue colours on the map. Certainly across parts of Scotland, we could get down to minus
01:52
seven, even minus eight Celsius in one or two rural spots by Tuesday, whereas across
01:56
the south, certainly below freezing in the more rural spots.
02:00
As for Tuesday itself then, after that cold and frosty start, plenty of sunshine is expected,
02:04
pretty much wall-to-wall sunshine in fact across many parts of the UK. Just a small
02:08
chance of a shower with some thicker cloud up towards the far north-east, but elsewhere
02:11
with that sunshine, again not feeling too bad out and about, despite the bit of a south-eastly
02:16
breeze, with temperatures peaking again at nine to 11 Celsius, 11 down towards the south
02:21
there is 52 in Fahrenheit.
02:23
As we go through the rest of the week, there will be plenty of sunshine for a time, but
02:26
towards the end of the week, as I say, low pressure could approach from the south and
02:29
west, introducing more unsettled conditions.
02:31
That's pretty much it from me, but of course you can keep tuned to The Met Office Forecast
02:35
by following us on social media and subscribing to our YouTube channel. I'll see you soon,
02:39
take care for now, bye bye.
