Ryan Lowe was always first choice

Gregor Rioch has revealed that Ryan Lowe was always first choice to replace Shaun Maloney at Wigan Athletic.

00:00It's easy to say this because he's sat here but it's a genuine case you know we

00:04went through a thorough process my job as sporting director is to always have a

00:09succession plan in the case of a manager losing his job or a manager being taken

00:15from you you know if we're doing well and these things happen then you have to

00:18be prepared so there's always the outline of a plan a succession plan but

00:23you know of course over the last couple of weeks as it is just short of the

00:31phone the emails the text messages have been really relentless which I think is

00:37a great great credit to the to the club and a compliment to the club that so

00:42many people wanted to come and take that position that was vacant but having met

00:49Ryan for the first time and then obviously that the second interview

00:53early on in the week it was unanimous amongst the board and we worked hard to

00:59get him and here he is. Was Mike Danson involved or I know you speak of the

01:03board but I think fans would be you know interested to know whether he was at all involved.

01:07Yeah he wasn't involved in the interview process he's left that to us of course

01:10whilst you know the the first stages I think he was still in the States from

01:18Vegas going back to New York at the time but he's been kept up to speed with

01:23with everything and obviously Mike has spoke with with Ryan on the phone and

01:27wished him well and welcomed him to the club and looks forward to seeing him face to

01:33face on Saturday at Charlton.
