And the blue plaque, I mean.
00:02
So, Bard, you're a resident of Brood, are you?
00:05
That's right, yeah.
00:06
So why are they going to erect a statue of you right here, then, the legend of Brood?
00:09
Because they can't forget about me, ma'am.
00:12
What do you love about living here?
00:14
It's, um, it's, um, everyone knows your business.
00:17
Do you love that, though?
00:19
Well, it's a bit awkward at times.
00:21
What about your business?
00:22
Well, there's only trouble, people.
00:24
When you live in these small places, everyone knows your business.
00:28
But what's good about it, though?
00:30
What's good about Brood?
00:31
What do you like about your neighbourhood?
00:33
It's, um, a nice place to be.
00:36
It's, you know, it's a friendly place.
00:39
And there's lots of boozers.
00:42
There are lovely, lovely pubs around here, actually.
00:45
That place over there is a bit cack.
00:47
Which one?
00:48
The Lion.
00:49
The Lion, oh, right.
00:50
Well, viewers, avoid the Lion.
00:52
So, I mean, what about, how long have you lived here?
00:56
I've lived here this time around, 20 years.
00:58
20 years, so why have you stayed here for so long, then?
01:01
Because I, um, I don't drive and I don't work.
01:04
I came back here 20 years ago after I had a stroke.
01:07
Yeah.
01:08
And I split up with my second wife.
01:10
Yeah.
01:11
And I came back and moved back with my mum.
01:13
Um, and I, um, when I had my stroke, my job went,
01:17
as long as I had my driving licence, my job went.
01:20
But, I mean, you know, it's the worst places to be, isn't it?
01:23
I mean, if someone was...
01:24
Well, I've got to be living in Wolverhampton, couldn't I?
01:27
Don't say that.
01:28
I'm here in the front of Wolverhampton.
01:30
So, OK, so if you had to tell, you know,
01:32
if someone was thinking of moving to Brood,
01:33
what would you tell them some of the best things
01:35
about this town or population?
01:37
There's a great cocktail bar over the road.
01:39
So, great cocktail bars, great people.
01:41
Good, friendly people.
01:43
Would you say it's safe, apart from when you're out and about?
01:46
I think so, yes.
01:48
This is, this is actually...
01:50
Recording.
01:51
We're talking films here, aren't we?
01:52
We are talking films.
01:53
We're on the moving pictures.
01:54
I'm going to be on the telly, am I?
01:55
Yeah, yeah.
01:56
Not the telly.
01:57
But I'm famous already, so I'm going to be...
01:58
And what are you famous for?
01:59
Being...
02:00
Does your reputation...
02:01
Being a character on Brood.
02:02
Yes.
02:03
OK, anything else that you love about your neighbourhood
02:05
that you want to add?
02:06
I don't know, I don't know if...
02:07
I don't know what else I can say about it.
02:08
Is it safe?
02:09
Is it safe?
02:10
Safe, generally, yeah.
02:11
I mean, you know, I've fell over a couple of times, but...
02:13
That's your own fault, though, isn't it?
02:15
But that's probably...
02:16
I've had too many sherbets.
02:17
Thank you, Bodge.
02:19
Friendly people.
02:20
Friendly people.
02:21
And it's a nice restaurant.
02:22
Do you drink good?
02:23
No.
02:24
Thank you for the telly, yeah.
02:25
Oh, are we eating too?
02:26
He is the legend of the town, as you can see.
02:27
Who's he?
02:28
Everyone knows him.
02:29
Everyone...
02:30
Sorry, the cat's gone.
02:31
Bodge is a legend of the town here.
02:32
Everyone loves him.
02:33
Everyone knows him.
02:34
What's your surname, Bodge?
02:35
The Swan.
02:36
The Swan.
02:37
We're in The Swan with Sally, the lovely bartender.
02:38
And Sally was born and bred in Brood.
02:39
What do you love so much about your neighbourhood here, Sally?
02:40
It's just such a tight-knit community.
02:41
I think so many people come here.
02:42
I think so many people come here.
02:43
I think so many people come here.
03:15
Just how tight-knit the community is.
03:16
Everything's so close to everything.
03:17
They've got loads of schools.
03:18
You've got the shops.
03:19
Yeah, everyone's just so friendly.
03:20
So welcome to new people coming into the village.
03:21
It's easy.
03:22
That's a great thing.
03:23
And did you go to a school locally here as well?
03:24
Yes, I went to St Dominic's.
03:25
So do you feel generally...
03:26
Like, as a young woman, do you feel safe in this area?
03:27
Oh, 100%.
03:28
Yeah?
03:29
When I walk home from work at 12 o'clock at night, I don't feel scared to talk to
03:30
Wilco.
03:31
Because, again, everything's so close, and you know too many people in the village.
03:32
You get a lot of support.
03:33
Yeah.
03:34
Yeah.
03:35
Yeah.
03:36
Yeah.
03:37
Yeah.
03:38
Yeah.
03:39
Yeah.
03:45
I did feel...
03:46
You know who I'm talking off on?
03:47
Who's it for?
03:48
Yeah?
03:49
You really love her, don't you?
03:50
Thank you so much.
03:51
Thank you, BOD.
03:52
BOD says he hates Brood, but I think he's lying.
03:53
I hate Brood, too.
03:54
All right, all right.
03:55
Let's start again.
03:56
Let's start again.
03:57
I'm with Wes and BOD.
03:58
We're here in the Swan Inn.
03:59
Are you two...
04:00
You live locally, to here?
04:01
Not in Brood, no.
04:02
Not in Brood?
04:03
Oh.
04:04
But while you're here in Brood, what do you like about...
04:05
The beer.
04:06
The beer?
04:07
It's good here.
04:08
Ah.
04:09
Local Cascades is the...
04:10
Yeah?
04:11
Yeah.
04:12
Yeah, well the Cascades are better than the local.
04:15
Oh, well you like the Cascades.
04:17
Yes.
04:18
What else did you like about the village?
04:20
Um, cleanliness.
04:22
Cleanliness.
04:23
Um, people.
04:25
People.
04:26
Do you know actually, no one said cleanliness, and I think that's a very important thing about where you live,
04:31
because you don't want to see litter strewn around, you know.
04:34
But it's a very beautiful, like it's a historic place really, isn't it?
04:38
Old buildings.
04:40
So, I mean, what would you say to someone who's thinking of moving here, let's say?
04:47
Um, I think we're overpopulated enough, aren't we Bob?
04:52
Yeah, there's enough here really.
04:54
Plenty of people are there.
04:56
Yeah, there's enough. I think we'd have to have a house in the place.
04:59
Okay.
05:00
There's a lot of old people improving.
05:02
Well, so do you think everything's...
05:04
Speak for yourself.
05:05
Not so fast paced.
05:06
This is where the elephants come to dine.
05:09
Guys, come on, we're doing a healthy pizza, aren't we?
05:12
One or two anyway.
05:14
I think you've come to the wrong corner of this healthy room.
05:19
My one friend, he's 94.
05:22
Yeah.
05:23
Then it goes down, uh, late 80s.
05:27
He was two or three in the late 80s.
05:31
Whole blooded was in the mid to late 70s.
05:34
Well, why is it here that you choose to come to then and spend your time?
05:38
Because we like the pub.
05:39
You like the pub?
05:40
And this pub specifically?
05:42
Well, we like the pub and the general chit chat that goes on here.
05:47
Yeah.
05:48
Surrounded by good people, good beer.
05:50
What more could you need?
05:54
I haven't actually, can you tell me some?
05:56
Yeah, go on then.
05:57
Take it in there then.
05:58
Oh, alright, we're going...
06:00
Watch him.
06:02
Alright, let's go and learn some history of Simon in this one.
06:05
Simon used to live in Brood many years ago, moved to New Zealand,
06:10
and now you're back here.
06:11
Tell me, Simon, what brought you back?
06:14
I mean, you can tell me the passport story.
06:16
Just for the listeners, he found it in the washing machine and couldn't go back to New Zealand,
06:20
so now he's still in Brood.
06:22
What do you love about your neighbourhood here?
06:24
I just like the whole vibe here.
06:26
Like, from everyone behind the bar to the regulars.
06:31
Everyone mocks me every time I come in here because I'm still in shorts and flip-flops,
06:36
even if it's snowing.
06:38
But, you know, everyone makes an effort and it's nice.
06:41
Do you live far from this little centre where this pub is?
06:45
I'm about ten minutes away.
06:47
Yeah? And what do you like about where you live?
06:52
Where I live's really nice, but I miss having a little community
06:57
because where I live on Weston Park, it's very isolated.
07:02
So this is my release right here.
07:04
Say hello to the guys.
07:06
So would you say one thing that you come here into the centre for more
07:11
is for more socialising.
07:13
Yeah.
07:15
And what else do you love about it?
07:17
If someone was going to move here, what would you say to them to try and convince them to come?
07:21
It's a nice area and it's close to a lot of things as well.
07:25
You know, transport routes if you want to go somewhere.
07:28
There's a lot of stuff to do around here.
07:31
Okay, well we're due to end over here in Rainbow then.
07:34
It's a little business here in Brood.
07:37
So how long have you folks had, I know you've had your business for 17 years,
07:40
but how long have you been here in Brood for?
07:42
For 17.
07:44
I was started here.
07:46
Oh, sorry, yeah, my mistake.
07:48
So you know the other two locations, did you say that you've had?
07:52
They were in Brood as well.
07:54
Okay, so it's always been Brood.
07:56
So you love it here, I'm guessing.
07:58
There's a nice energy and it's people are friendly, you know.
08:03
Generally.
08:04
It's always a good sort of buddy, isn't it?
08:06
Yeah, yeah.
08:07
I love having a bad day.
08:08
But the majority.
08:09
The majority are really nice and a very caring sort of community.
08:14
A caring community, that's important.
08:16
And I feel like in the smaller villages, they can be more...
08:20
You do get that.
08:23
So, I mean, what would you, you know, if someone was thinking of moving here,
08:27
what would you say are like the best bits about?
08:30
There's some lovely walks because it's a small village,
08:34
so you haven't got far to go to like have a little wander around.
08:38
And nature, I guess, is close by.
08:41
You've got the canal, obviously, that brings people in through the summer
08:44
and up to the wintertime.
08:46
Someone mentioned the cleanliness, actually, which I didn't think of myself.
08:51
Because they do litter picking.
08:53
It's like the best kept village.
08:55
But then they do it all year round, really, a lot of them.
08:59
They'll go around picking up litter.
09:01
And they've got a local gardener that does all the...
09:04
Trims all the hedges and makes sure...
09:06
And he's nice.
09:07
To be honest, it goes above and beyond because he does all the like,
09:10
you know, where the grass goes onto the pavement.
09:12
He does all that as well and he's not meant to,
09:15
but he so wants to make the village nice.
09:17
Because he cares about his village, I guess, and, you know.
09:20
It's that caring aspect.
09:22
Yeah, they're very proud of the village, aren't they, and how it looks, I suppose.
09:25
And they have this competition every year, I think it is,
09:29
for like medium, small and large villages.
09:32
They have like a competition for the best kept village,
09:35
and I think they've won it a few times.
09:38
Yes, it has, actually, and I'm not surprised.
09:40
I mean, it's so beautiful.
09:41
As I said to you, it's my first time here and I absolutely love it.
09:45
Yeah, so, I mean, and you've got a wonderful business here.
09:48
So you're happy here in Brood.
09:50
Oh, yes, definitely.
09:51
No fans to move anywhere else.
09:53
No, and you just get to know people and it is that nice.
09:58
And you can tell that people care about each other.
10:01
Just, you know, what they're saying.
10:03
Judy would move to Glastonbury if you could.
10:05
Oh, for the festival?
10:07
No, just generally.
10:09
If I could, I would.
10:11
That's so nice.
10:12
Thank you so much, guys.
10:13
That's okay.
