Anwar: MOU on equal MP allocation remains open for talks

The memorandum of understanding (MOU) on the proposed equal allocation for MPs is still open for negotiations, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.  The Prime Minister said the MoU has not been finalised and could still be amended following further discussions.  He was responding to Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who said the conditions imposed by the government for equal allocation were too strict and unfair. 00:38Some people say, we're so poor, we're in debt.

00:43I don't know how much the parliament and parliamentarians' salaries are.

00:46It's around RM3,000-RM4,000.

00:48Who gets RM3,000-RM4,000 here? No one.

00:51So it's not that there's no money at all.

00:55And what we differentiate is the provision.

01:01That too, for the area, for the people, it's continued.

01:06For example, if our parliament is in Tambul,

01:10let's say in Pembangka, the project will continue.

01:14It's just that the project will continue to the people,

01:18or through parliamentarians' provisions. That's the difference.

01:22Secondly, the project is not given to the parliamentarians.

01:29The project is for the people.

01:31It's just that the parliamentarians have a role to give a provision or a provision.

01:37So to state first, the people are burdened, it's not right.

01:41Secondly, by saying that the parliamentarians are poor, they're in debt.

01:48I don't know if RM40,000 is still poor.

01:51If you listen to their provisions in both parliaments,

01:57If you buy a lot of cars or have a lot of wives, you'll be in debt.
