DR Congo offers $5M reward for rebel leaders amid ongoing conflict  The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) has announced a $5 million reward for the capture of three M23 rebel leaders, including former electoral chief Corneille Nangaa, military commander Sultani Makenga, and political leader Bertrand Bisimwa. 00:00The government of the Democratic Republic of Congo has announced a $5 million reward

00:05for information leading to arrest of three key leaders of the M23 rebel group, which

00:11has seized large areas in the east of the country this year.

00:15The bounty targets Cornel Nanga, former head of DR Congo's electoral commission and current

00:21leader of the Congo River Alliance, an alliance that includes M23.

00:26He has been seen addressing rallies in cities under the rebel's control.

00:31Also named in the reward are M23 military commander Sultani Makenga and political leader

00:36Betra Bisimwa.

00:39Last year, a military court sentenced the three men to death in absentia for treason.

00:44Additionally, the government has placed over a $4 million reward on the arrests of their

00:49accomplices.

00:50Despite the reward, capturing the rebel leader remains unlikely.

00:54The Congolese army has struggled against M23, which is backed by Rwanda, and rebels

00:58now control vast swaths of the resource-rich eastern DR Congo, including the key cities

01:04of Goma and Bukavu.

01:06President Felix Zekeri has shifted focus to rallying international support for sanctions

01:10against Rwanda, which he accuses of fueling the conflict.
