Hello, this is Alan Patullo, football writer for the Scotsman at Ibrox, following a fairly
00:10
frenetic afternoon where the Rangers succumbed to defeat once more just a matter of 13 days
00:18
after an historic reversal against Queen's Park in the Scottish Cup.
00:24
The return to Ibrox determined to atone for that defeat in front of their fans and produce
00:31
possibly something worse against St Mirren. A very good St Mirren side, let me underline.
00:39
Philippe Clement, the Rangers manager, called the 2-0 defeat the worst performance of his
00:45
16-month reign, which is quite an admission considering they had been beaten by Queen's
00:55
Park two weeks, or less than two weeks earlier. But yeah, this really was an afternoon to
01:01
forget for Rangers. The fans started streaming out in their droves midway through the second
01:07
half when Olu Saneur had scored St Mirren's second goal, to add to Michael Mandron's
01:16
opener shortly after half-time, which was reinstated after being chalked off initially
01:23
for a perceived foul on En-Sial, a young Rangers defender. It transpired he'd only just tripped
01:32
over his own feet. Mandron finished expertly beyond Jack Butland to make it 1-0. Olu Saneur
01:42
brushed past En-Sial again to make it 2-0 after 70 minutes. Cue a mass walkout from
01:51
Rangers fans. They came here with, you can see a few Stars and Stripes flags fluttering
01:59
around Ibrox. They came here in a fairly optimistic frame of mind given the news of a perceived
02:09
or a reported takeover by Enterprise 49ers, the investment arm of the American football
02:17
team San Francisco 49ers. But yeah, you can rely on Rangers to puncture such optimism
02:24
and they did so here. One does wonder what the future looks like for Clermont. He has
02:32
a very perilous assignment this Wednesday at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock, followed
02:41
by a return here against Motherwell next Saturday. Who knows what the atmosphere will be like
02:48
then. It was pretty toxic after the final whistle here. Clermont went straight down
02:52
the tunnel after the final whistle, shortly followed by James Tavenier, the Rangers skipper.
03:00
They weren't hanging around. A few Rangers players led by Jack Butland did try and partake
03:07
in some kind of lap of dishonour but they were waved away by the Rangers fans. So more
03:15
trauma here at Ibrox as this difficult season continues for Rangers and Philippe Clermont.
