Alan Pattullo reflects on a lively Rangers egm and meeting new Ibrox chairman Andrew Cavenagh and vice-chairman Paraag Marathe for the first time
Transcript
00:00Hello, this is Alan Patullo, football writer at The Scotsman, sitting here at Ibrox Stadium.
00:09Having just spent the day chronicling the first public appointments for the new Rangers owners,
00:21specifically being the new chairman, Andrew Kavanagh, and new vice chairman, Parag Murati.
00:29Who fronted their first Rangers EGM this morning, introduced by former Rangers chairman, Fraser Thornton.
00:43Fraser did say at the start to shareholders to try and avoid asking too many questions that were obviously
00:58had football at their heart, as in questions that could possibly be better answered by those in part of the football operations department.
01:10But yeah, with the new season approaching so quickly and with Rangers trying their hardest to build a competitive squad in the weeks ahead,
01:26it was difficult I think for fans not to avoid asking questions on what's going on the pitch.
01:31So yeah, Parag and Andrew fielded a variety of questions on different subjects.
01:41one of which was a Shiroda calling for the return of the Ibrox church parade, which was an interesting one.
01:50But yeah, Parag and Andrew handled themselves with, I thought, considerable aplomb,
01:59and were given a very warm reception and were applauded very warmly at the end.
02:06I think they came across as two very credible figures who I think can lead Rangers into a positive new chapter.
02:17I think that's something certainly the Rangers fans and shareholders need to believe and want to believe,
02:23and I think there was enough substance for them to be given firm ground to have those dreams.
02:32I later sat down with both Andrew and Parag in this room, in fact, and my interview with them will be on scotsman.com.
02:47It already is in the case of Andrew.
02:50A piece with Parag will go up tomorrow on scotsman.com and in the newspaper as well, both tomorrow, Tuesday and on Wednesday.
03:01Thank you for listening and log on if you can.
03:06And we'll be covering more Rangers news on scotsman.com in the days ahead.
03:13Exciting times, I think, for the Ibrox club.
