Thanks for joining me for your latest update from the Met Office. A big change
00:04
is happening right now. We've had high pressure and easterly winds bringing a
00:09
chill and a fair amount of dry weather so far through February. But out in the
00:13
Atlantic look at this big swirl of cloud or swirls really a set of areas of low
00:19
pressure are being pushed in and they are bringing that change finally ousting
00:24
the area of high pressure. Switching the wind direction which means milder air
00:28
but also wetter air and many of us have seen some outbreaks of rain this morning.
00:33
The damp weather continuing to track its way across parts of Scotland. Much of
00:37
eastern England though staying dry. We've seen some sunshine here. We will see a
00:41
bit more cloud moving in and rain and drizzle on and off across the Midlands.
00:45
Turning drier for Wales and southwest England at least temporarily along with
00:48
Northern Ireland. But notice there's more rain starting to usher in towards the
00:53
far west of Cornwall by four o'clock this afternoon. Quite breezy still along
00:58
some of these North Sea coasts and quite gusty around western coasts as well.
01:02
Temperatures though are starting to pick up. One more chilly day in the east.
01:06
Temperatures here only five or six degrees for most of the afternoon. But
01:10
for the south and west look at that double digits and that milder air will
01:14
spread steadily along with the cloud and rain north and eastwards through the
01:19
night. So it turns pretty wet this evening for Wales, Northern Ireland,
01:22
southwest England. That rain then sweeps across Scotland before midnight. The rain
01:26
fairly patchy in eastern areas but there will be some getting to eastern
01:29
England and then further outbreaks of rain coming from the west. Staying quite
01:33
gusty around western coasts especially. Elsewhere though the wind starting to
01:37
change direction no longer coming in from the North Sea. So it will be turning
01:42
milder by first thing on Thursday morning. The temperatures are likely to
01:46
be higher than they will be for much of the day. In the east seven eight degrees
01:50
and further west will start Thursday in double digits. So yes a lot milder
01:56
but it is going to be pretty drab. A lot of cloud around outbreaks of rain. A wet
02:00
start for Wales, Northern Ireland, much of Scotland seeing some heavier bursts of
02:04
rain moving in. Again maybe not much of it through the morning across parts of
02:08
the east and maybe East Anglia staying largely dry through the day. But then
02:12
another pulse of rain comes into Scotland, Northern England and Wales come
02:17
the afternoon. Cheers up a little bit in western Scotland, Northern Ireland but
02:20
then more showers coming here on a gusty wind. It also should turn drier by the
02:25
end of the afternoon across Northern England, Wales and southwest England too.
02:29
So we will see some sunny spells between the spells of rain that will be weaving
02:34
in. And look at these numbers not seen these for quite some time. Double digits
02:39
across the board with many places getting into the teens 15 possibly even
02:43
16 Celsius where we see some sunshine. Obviously it won't feel all that pleasant
02:47
when it's raining and when the winds are blowing. And we will continue to see
02:52
gusty winds and further shower outbreaks of rain across Scotland and
02:54
Northern Ireland during Thursday evening. For England and Wales many places will be
02:58
dry on Thursday evening but behind me lurking there are more weather systems
03:03
developing. So we'll see these weather fronts come charging in from the
03:07
Atlantic as we head to Friday. The ice bars really squeezing together and we do
03:11
have a Met Office yellow wind warning in place for parts of the west getting
03:15
quite lively during the course of Friday. Those weather fronts will bring further
03:19
spells of rain. Some question marks about how much rain we get on this weather
03:23
system across the southeast. Many places looking a bit drier on Saturday at least
03:27
before another low pressure and more weather fronts and more tightly packed
03:32
ice bars bring another spell of wet and windy weather during the second half of
03:36
the weekend. So it's a lively few days ahead. Aiden will have much more in the
03:41
10-day trend that'll be available on our YouTube channel by Wednesday afternoon.
