In Perth's mortgage belt, Tanya's balloon business was on its way up at the start of
00:08
the pandemic, quickly growing from a home business into this retail space with three
00:12
part-time staff and dreams of going further.
00:16
And the changes that interest rate, the lack of the income coming in has kind of put a
00:21
stay on that a little bit.
00:22
The Reserve Bank's decision welcome, but Tanya's not expecting a rush of customers.
00:27
Because they're not going to go, oh my gosh, I've got this extra money now, I can all of
00:31
a sudden go and spend on balloons, for example.
00:35
It's going to be like, oh wait, now I can catch up on my bills that I've maybe been
00:39
behind on.
00:40
The Premier happy with the news too.
00:42
Inflation is now at its lowest rate in more than four years.
00:46
So it's been a long haul and a hard fought battle, but WA has won.
00:50
The rate cut is good news for Roger Cook with cost of living a key election issue, especially
00:55
out here in the suburbs.
00:57
The Liberals say it's not enough though, and there's more support the state government
01:01
could be giving.
01:02
We know that shopping basket is costing much more and more, and under the Cook Labor government
01:07
we've also seen fees and charges up about $1,000.
01:11
The Liberals in Forestfield pledging mandatory GPS tracking of repeat serious offenders released
01:16
on bail and...
01:18
Anyone who's being electronically monitored, who mucks around with that device, or commits
01:23
another offence while being electronically monitored will go back immediately into detention.
01:31
Labor was in Byford promising to raise the stamp duty exemption and discount thresholds
01:35
for first home buyers, going further than last year's budget and making townhouses eligible.
01:41
We expect over 22,000 West Australians will benefit from these new concessions.
01:46
The Liberals have made a similar pledge which they say will help around 20,000 West Australians
01:51
over four years.
