00:00The Philippine Heart Center is celebrating its 50th anniversary, highlighting its accomplishments and plans for the years ahead.

00:06To tell us more about this year's celebration, our Bien Manalo has the story.

00:13Cardiologists all over the Philippines were all together to celebrate the Philippine Heart Center's 50th golden anniversary.

00:20PHC has been delivering quality and medical services for our citizens experiencing heart-related diseases for five decades.

00:29Several personalities with outstanding contributions to the Philippine Heart Center are honored,

00:35including former First Lady Imelda Marcos, who is one of the supporters of the hospital.

00:40This is truly a great day for me.

00:43For me, what made me build the Heart Center?

00:50My heart, love, being a mother.

00:55What is the story today about this 50th anniversary of the Heart Center?

01:03It is a story of love.

01:05I dedicate this award to my son, Darryl, who was just shot in the U.S. last September 6.

01:14Philippine Heart Center's quality and medical services continue.

01:18One of the highlights of the event was the performance of American singer-songwriter David Pomeranz.

01:24The Philippine Heart Center was established on February 14, 1975 by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 673

01:32under the administration of President Ferdinand E. Marcos, Sr.

01:35PHC accommodates more than 14,000 patients every year, including more than 3,000 patients undergoing heart surgery.

01:43It is also considered as one of the busiest congenital heart surgery centers all over Asia.

01:49It is not only a celebration of our past, but also a reaffirmation of our commitment

01:54to the future of cardiovascular medicine in the Philippines.

01:58Just last year, President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. spearheaded the inauguration

02:03of the Bagong Urgent Care and Ambulatory Service or BUCA Center at the PHC.

02:08Along with this is the government's allocation of over 200 million pesos in financial assistance to the hospital.

02:15The Philippine Heart Center has more than a 500-bed capacity,

02:1810 operating rooms, 6 cardiac catheterization laboratories, 8 intensive care units, and 20 patient wards.

02:26Right now, there are 15 regional heart centers in different parts of the country.

02:31Of this number, there are 7 fully-fledged regional heart centers including PHC in Ilocos Norte,

02:37Albay, Camarines Sur, Iloilo, Cebu, Davao, and Cagayan de Oro.

02:43According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, heart disease is still the leading cause of death among Filipinos.

02:50That's why the DOH reminds all adult Filipinos on the value of proper diet and exercise to prevent the heart disease.
