00:12have systematically orchestrated smear campaigns against them to generate hatred and criminalize
00:18the protests against the activity.
00:20Precisely, the demonstration happened after the Salvadoran Congress controlled by Bukele
00:25gave the green light to a law promoted by the president to reactivate metallic mining,
00:30which was banned in the country since 2017.
00:34In this context, environmentalists fear the activity will contaminate the Lempa River,
00:39which crosses the potential working zone and supply waters to 70% of the inhabitants of
00:46the capital and surrounding cities.
