00:03Two Chesterfield secondary schools could be affected by industrial action,

00:07following a disagreement between a teachers' union and a schools trust.

00:11Teaching union the NASUWT has warned it will ballot members for industrial action

00:17unless Outward Grange Academies Trust withdraws plans to increase secondary teachers' working hours and workload.

00:23It comes after reports that the trust, which runs 28 secondary schools in England,

00:28including Outward Haslam Hall and the Outward Academy Newbold in Chesterfield,

00:33is planning to increase the length of the school day and teaching contract by 30 minutes per day from September.

00:39The union has warned it will ballot members for industrial action

00:43unless the trust withdraws its plans to increase the teachers' workload and hours.

00:47A spokesperson for Outward Grange Academies Trust said,

00:51We have been engaged in constructive dialogue with our trade union partners and our colleagues since October

00:56regarding our proposal to reshape the secondary school day so more of our teachers' time is spent with students,

01:02helping them to achieve even better outcomes.

01:05Our secondary school day currently ends at 2.30pm,

01:09which we have to recognise currently falls short of the government's 32.5 hour a week minimum expectation.
