00:00I'm in conversation with Bhoomi Pednekar, whose movie called Durga Mati is going to release on Amazon Prime very soon, so in December.

00:08So she's going to end the year with a bang.

00:14First, you can tell us more about the horror thriller.

00:17Tell me all about it. What should I know about it?

00:19I know, don't give the...

00:20Well, no, no, I'm not going to give you the main plot.

00:23I'm not really going to indulge in the story at all because, you know, it is a conspiracy

00:29thriller with aspects of horror, with a backdrop of horror.

00:33So it has like a jump scare, but it also intellectually really gets you thinking, you know,

00:39because that's that's the most unique thing about Durga Mati.

00:42It's by far one of my most must-see commercial films because of the canvas that the film

00:49has, you know, it's a film that's extremely larger than life in emotion, with the drama,

00:55with the action, with everything that the film has.

00:58But the best part about Durga Mati is that it has a very strong story at the crux of it.

01:04Oh, that's so good to hear as well, Bhoomi.

01:06And I don't know if I've seen the movie Tumbaad.

01:09It is so good.

01:10I enjoyed it thoroughly.

01:12It's one of my most favourite horrors.

01:15Oh, good, good.

01:16Because you know what, this kind of, I wanted another Tumbaad.

01:18I discovered it late and I'm in love with it.

01:20So when I saw the trailer of it, I was like, OK, this has the potential to be another one

01:25perhaps because it has folklore, mythology and then the power.

01:29Yes, yes, yes, it does.

01:30I feel, I think the narrative for Tumbaad and Durga Mati, both the films are very

01:35different. As I said, Durga Mati was meant to be a cinema mass entertainer.

01:44And it has all the positive connotation attached to a mass entertainer that's required

01:49usually because the films that I do, they come from credible spaces.

01:52The moment I say, you know, oh, Durga Mati is massy, they're like, oh, are you trying to say it's not good?

01:56I'm like, no, why? Why is it that a massy film can't be good?

02:00You know, how did that, when, when did this jargon change?

02:04Right. So I'm very excited for people to watch it.

02:08OK, brilliant. And do you think OTT spaces have generally opened this women narratives,

02:13you know, stories told by women from her perspective?

02:16I feel I'm seeing this quarantine, not quarantine, lockdown.

02:20I've seen so many movies held by women and I love it.

02:24I feel it's year of the women.

02:26I think so. But I don't, I mean, I would not want to give full, I wouldn't give OTT like all

02:32the credit for it. I feel like, you know, let's not discredit what our films have done.

02:36You know, if you look at the films that, you know, any of my colleagues, be it Alia,

02:41Taapsee, Deepika, I, you know, whatever movies you all have done, Vidya Ma'am, the idea is to

02:49kind of take such narratives forward.

02:52Right. And even be it my previous film that came on to an OTT platform like this or

03:00Durgamati, I feel we must credit the audience for this change.

03:05You know, it's a very slow change, but it's a change nonetheless.

03:09I couldn't have ever imagined that I would do a film that was this, I wouldn't say high in

03:14budget, but this, that had such a large canvas.

03:19You know, as I said, these are things that are usually given to like your male

03:23counterparts, right, where you have a huge set and, you know, they put up like hoardings as

03:30big as like a tall tower in Bombay.

03:33I have not seen this happen.

03:36Nice.

03:36I'm amazed. I'm like, wow, times have changed.

03:40How has the year been for you, Bhoomi? If 2020 were to be encapsulated in any, like, have

03:46you given it, what a bizarre year though. That's what I would, that's my take on it.

03:51Very, very bizarre. I feel the last time I had any major human interaction apart from

03:55Durgamati was when I was promoting Pati Patni Waan Go.

03:58Last year, it was exactly this time and you know, we had that face to face interview.

04:03But I feel 2020 has definitely been heartbreaking because, I mean, I think across the

04:10world, apart from COVID-19 as well, you know, the world has gone through some major shifts

04:16and, you know, there have been like some moments of joy and happiness.

04:22But personally for me, even though, you know, we've seen loss and we've seen, you know, some

04:28moments of heartbreak, I have tried being as productive as possible in 2020. I'm very

04:34fortunate to have had like, this is my second release of the year, technically my fourth but

04:40Okay, yes.

04:42Technically. But this is my second release of the year and, you know, the first one got a lot

04:48of love and I just hope that I managed to entertain my audiences this time around as well.

04:53I feel as an actor, in the situation that the world is in, if I can still reach out to people,

05:00go into their homes, in their hearts, I feel that's all I need as an actor.
