01:06you said he has the pulse so you know that you don't have to do any thinking you just have to

01:12follow his you know the measure that he wants in the performance and also because he edits

01:19himself he knows exactly where and what is going to go. So, it's a treat to work with

01:26people who have that kind of experience in their craft, yeah.

01:29No, but you are so good at what you do, Tabu. I mean I sometimes feel I don't know whether you're a

01:34director's actress and you say there is no method and all that don't ask me to give a method last

01:38time I spoke to you. You can't even explain it but I just feel you're one of those actors I think

01:43it just comes naturally to you. What is it? Like are you the most natural actor that we have in India today?

01:50Yeah, I can't find any words to describe myself. No, I can't describe myself and I can't put

01:56adjectives to myself and I can't decode it. I think that's for people to do to have an assessment

02:02and a conclusion of like what am I and like what is it and what kind of actor I am so yeah I just

02:12follow what the vision of the director is and try to do my best and bring in myself and me to the

02:21role and the character as as truly as I can. No, but you need to tell me like did you expect to be

02:27so well loved and beloved all these years Tabu because you don't do movie promotions, you're not

02:33seen social mediaing like you know I don't know a lot about you honestly you're very low profile

02:38but you let your work do the talking. How do you manage to be this relevant you know people watch

02:43you irrespective of whether you are in the public eye or not?

02:48I don't know. Again, I can't decode the reasons. How will I know that people go and watch me and

02:54what is it about me? How can I say that? I can just say that it's great to hear that

03:03and I've got great roles, I've got great characters, I've got really, really fantastic films to be part of

03:10and if you ask me to tell you what it is about me then I really don't know. I really would not. I

03:17don't think anybody will be able to say that you know if I ask you what is it about your

03:23interviews and what is it about your work that you know that shouts out to people, people connect

03:29to it you wouldn't be able to tell me. I can tell you I don't misquote people that was the

03:34Myself I can say that I do my work with sincerity. I go on time. I'm terribly punctual. Yes.

03:48Tabu, do you make your career choices based on the goodwill that you have? I remember

03:52seeing you in Dubai in a Saturday night and you were like, I'm going to Dubai. I'm going to Dubai.

04:01I remember seeing you in Dubai in a Salman Khan film. I forget the name of it. It was in an

04:07amusement park. What's that? Jai Ho. Yes, you were in the movie. I was so surprised. Let me be but

04:14you both have you're very close friends. So is that how you also take decisions like for you

04:20emotions and it's not transactional. Your work is not transactional for you.

04:25Nice observation. I have done so many films with Salman that it's also we have such a personal

04:37equation. We've known each other since like forever. His family is like my own family. He

04:44considers me part of his family and he's somebody I know who will always be there whether I need

04:52him or not. It's not like if I need him, he's there for me. It's not like that. He's there.

04:59So, these are some non-negotiable relationships in my life and who I will love to continue

05:07working with as long as there are opportunities to work with.

05:12Brilliant. And no but Bollywood is going towards, not Bollywood, just Indian cinema, the

05:16stars, the talents are going towards a very professional way of conduct like everything is

05:20streamlined. There's like an entourage around you. What you wear is like dissected. Do you

05:26follow those beats or no? You just want to let your work do the talking and that's it. You

05:31don't want to get into this whole idea.

05:32No, everything is a part of your work and your career and it's great to have an entourage but

05:42you don't need to have an entourage to tell you what to wear and what not to wear.

05:47I think we know ourselves and our bodies and our faces enough and we we have lived enough to

05:53understand what we should wear.

05:56So, yeah.

06:03making like, I love seeing fashion. I thought you really like the red carpet, the bling. You

07:23But it depends. Just because it's international content, that's not the only reason why I will

07:30do it. And these are really generalized things I feel like going to Hollywood, doing international

07:38serial. But what is it in that international series is important. It's not like you can't do

07:44a blanket. So it depends on what kind of work you're being offered. When I did a namesake, Life

07:52of Pi, the reason I did it was you know why I did it and you know the characters and you know

07:59how important they were and there was a reason. Not just because it was you know a Hollywood

08:05film. So the material matters to me and what I can do with the material matters to me.

08:14What the director, how the director is seeing my character in the film matters to me.

08:19No, but have you become cynical though? The lack of excitement is a part of who you are?

08:24Do you think I have become cynical?

08:27That's my area too.

08:31I have always been like this.

08:33You have been very pragmatic haven't you?

08:37I have always been very relaxed in some areas and I have always been very

08:43focused and motivated in some areas. I don't think there is any lack of

08:54thing. No, I don't think there is any lack of motivation or excitement in me.

09:03Every role, every film excites me. I mean that's what everyone says.

09:11Yeah, it's not an easy industry to be in for sure. It's so like brutal generally, I feel.

09:16Yeah, it could be. It can be. It can be also very exhilarating. I think if you just are

09:28prepared to enjoy everything and embrace everything and you don't think about

09:33how the industry is and how the world is then it becomes a little easier.

09:38I love it. Taboo school of thought. Don't overanalyze. Just do it.

09:42Do it if you want to, don't do it if you don't want to but do. The focus should be in the doing

09:50and not the thinking. I am happy to embrace everything about life.
