00:00The Department for Transport has given the green light for £35.7 million worth of funding
00:07to enable Leeds City Council to reconfigure the Dawson's Corner Junction and complete
00:12joint replacement works on the Stanningley Bypass.
00:16Proposed changes to the junction include widening the carriageway on the A6120 ring road and
00:21the integration of pedestrian and cycle facilities at Dawson's Corner, linking in with the Leeds-Bradford
00:27cycle superhighway. Dedicated bus lanes will also be installed on the A647 Bradford Road
00:34to reduce bus journey times. The overall aims of the project are to reduce congestion and
00:39delays and to improve air quality and traffic flow, alongside safer crossing facilities
00:44for cyclists and pedestrians.
00:47The third-party land required to build the scheme has been purchased and, subject to
00:51contractor approvals, the main works are planned to start later this year and could take up
00:55to 15 months to complete.
