00:09Raging forest fires in central Portugal have killed at least 57 people,

00:13most of whom burned to death in their cars and injured scores of others.

00:18Nearly 600 firefighters and 160 vehicles were dispatched late on Saturday

00:23to tackle the blaze, which broke out in the afternoon about 50 km from Coimbra

00:29before spreading fast across several fronts.

00:32US-backed Iraqi troops pushed into the last Daesh stronghold

00:36in the country's second-largest city of Mosul, an Iraqi commander said,

00:41formally launching the final major battle of an eight-month campaign.

00:45Daesh captured Mosul when it swept across northern and central Iraq in the summer of 2014.

00:52Iraq launched a massive operation to retake the city last October

00:56that has driven the militants from all but a handful of neighbourhoods.

01:00The extremists are expected to make their last stand in the old city,
