Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News update for Wednesday, July the 22nd. Here are the
00:09
top stories at this hour.
00:11
The Ministry of Energy has announced fuel prices will be deregulated across the UAE
00:15
from August 1st, and a new policy linked to global oil prices will be adopted. The decisions
00:20
aimed at supporting the national economy, lowering fuel consumption, protecting the
00:24
environment and preserving national resources, according to Sahil al-Mazroui, Minister of
00:29
Energy. He said a fuel price committee has been set up to review prices against average
00:35
international levels prior to their implementation in the Emirates. On the 28th of each month,
00:40
the committee will announce the prices for the following month. In line with this decision,
00:45
prices of gasoline and diesel for August will be announced on Tuesday, July 28th, based
00:51
on average global prices with the addition of operating costs, according to the ministry.
00:57
More rains forecast in northern Pakistan after flash floods inundated several villages
01:02
in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Dozens of people have died, Pakistani media
01:07
reported, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced. Pop singer Taylor Swift, British
01:13
singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran, R&B singer Beyonce and DJ producer Mark Ronson lead the nominations
01:19
for the MTV Video Music Awards, the cable network said. Swift, whose album 1989 was
01:25
the best-selling of 2014, earned nine nominations for the awards to be handed out on August
01:31
30th. Sheeran garnered six nominations, while Beyonce and Ronson each scored five nods.
01:37
And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 41 degrees Celsius, dropping
01:41
to 32 tonight. That's all for now. Thanks for watching and as always, you can get the
