07:05U.S. President Donald Trump said that the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas

07:10should be cancelled if Hamas doesn't release all the remaining hostages by midday on Saturday.

07:17The militant group accused Israel of not holding up its end of the deal and said the delay

07:21served as a warning signal, giving mediators five days to pressure Israel to act.

07:40When a reporter asked if he would consider withholding aid from Jordan and Egypt if they

07:56Trump's latest comment comes shortly after he doubled down on his plan to buy Gaza, which

08:13The European Commission said on Tuesday it would respond with countermeasures to safeguard

08:26its economic interests, as U.S. President Donald Trump raised tariffs on aluminium and

08:31steel imports to 25 percent.

08:33Free trade advocates believe that these tariff barriers would significantly harm growth.

09:03The three largest exporters of steel and aluminium to the U.S. are Canada, China and

09:20Mexico.

09:21In Europe, Germany, Italy, France and Austria, all of who export metals across the Atlantic

09:27would be the most affected by these tariff barriers.

09:33Trump already introduced tariffs on aluminium and steel during his first term at the White

09:38House.

09:39They were then replaced with quotas under Joe Biden.

09:43We could do as we did the last time around and retaliate on specific goods in the U.S.

09:48Last time we put in place tariffs on Harley Davidson motorcycles and jeans and stuff like

09:54that.

09:55And then, of course, the EU could do as it did on steel back then and impose a safeguard

10:00action, which is a tariff wall in the EU in general to protect EU producers.

10:07That is still in place since we imposed it in 2019 and it will run until 2026.

10:14These measures could also be counterproductive for the U.S.

10:18The impact for the United States is precisely the opposite of what Trump promised, which

10:23is to bring down inflation, to improve the economy.

10:28And I think what Europeans need to bear in mind is that Trump is not immune to political

10:34gravity.

10:36Donald Trump could also use tariff threats in order to gain leverage, pushing EU member

10:41states towards increasing their defence spending or reducing regulation of the technology sector.
