00:10The United States said relief channels were belatedly opening up to the typhoon-ravaged

00:15Philippines today as the UN admitted it had not acted quickly enough to help survivors.

00:20UN humanitarian chief Valerie Amos said the scale of the disaster and the logistical challenges

00:25meant that six days on from the storm, some places remained without help.

00:30Devastated by the typhoon, Tacloban City buried some of its dead in a mass grave in a hillside

00:35cemetery. Many bodies are still lying along the roads in the city and others are buried

00:39under debris, with more than 11.5 million people affected throughout the country.

01:13and foreigners. The new riots in the Saudi capital followed those that occurred on Saturday.

01:18Russian foreign and defence ministers are due to hold talks in Cairo that will reportedly

01:23include possible arms deals. It is the first such high-level Russian visit to Egypt in

01:28decades.

01:29Kuwait reported its first case of the deadly MERS coronavirus yesterday, the fifth Gulf

01:34country this strain has emerged in since the outbreak began in Saudi Arabia last year.

01:39Credit rating agency Moody's Investors Service yesterday upgraded the outlook for the UAE's

01:44banking system to stable from negative. The outlook change reflects the continued improvements

01:49in the operating environment as well as the ongoing recovery of the local real estate

01:54market.
