Do PCSOs actually help?

We’re asking people in Newport if they’d like to see more PCSOs on the street, or are they basically pointless?

00:00Anybody in a uniform that walks through the city centre when it's crowded in the night or in the day,

00:06it's a sign that, you know, they're looking after the community.

00:09I mean, at the moment, you don't see anyone.

00:11They're great at getting the things after because they've always got the cameras to look at.

00:18I believe that more policing is not the solution here.

00:23While the majority of people may feel it to be the solution because it's more visible,

00:28there's many things that we need to do in our communities in order to solve crime, essentially.

00:34Yeah, I think it's worth having them.

00:36They were useful to me just before Christmas.

00:38I saw a girl at the bus stop, very distressed, terrible situation.

00:43She didn't want to be here anymore, and I rang, and they said to me,

00:46we'll get some street ambassadors.

00:48They came down, and then later on, I stayed, and the police turned up.

00:53Yeah, I thought it was a good advantage, yeah.

00:57They were there quite quickly, so I would say yes.
