00:00Penang DAP is seeking funding and assistance to provide past leaders and members with courses on Chinese family names.
00:10Its Organising Secretary P Boon Chee said the party hoped to resolve misunderstandings and myths related to Chinese family names through these courses, reported Sindar Harian.
00:22He said the state's chapter is prepared to secure funds and support from cultural figures to organise these courses given the frequent inaccurate statements made about non-Malay communities.
00:35He said that if PAS truly understands the customs and culture of non-Malay communities, it would not issue statements that offend other ethnic groups, particularly the Chinese community.
00:47Earlier, PAS Information Chief Ahmad Fadli Sha'ari criticised academic Tajuddin Razdi for suggesting that certain parties conduct courses for PAS members to educate them on Chinese names,
00:59arguing it implied that the Islamist party was ignorant of the customs and culture of the non-Malay communities.
01:07However, P said that PAS' rejection of the suggestion was unreasonable considering the party frequently issued statements that offend other ethnic groups.
01:17He cited recent statements by PAS leaders who linked Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh to the Yeoh family of the YTL Corporation Berhad conglomerate,
01:27and that DAP veterans Lim Kit Siang and Lim Guan Eng were linked to the late Communist Party of Malaya leader Jinping.
