Miniatures Artist Makes His Mark With Tiny Sculpture for Year of the Snake

Taiwanese artist Chen Forng-Shean has brought miniature sculptures to life for the Year of the Snake. He says his creations symbolize confidence, prosperity and happiness to usher in the new year.

00:05who has been mastering the art of crafting intricate miniatures

00:08for over four decades.

00:11And to welcome the Year of the Snake,

00:13he has created tiny snake sculptures.

00:30Among all the sculptures Chen has brought to life,

00:40his gold zodiac collection stands out.

00:43For the past six years,

00:45he has spent months each time crafting these animal figures,

00:49from design to detailed execution.

00:52For the Year of the Snake,

00:54Chen created this 0.8-millimeter serpent

00:58accompanied by several mice,

01:00which symbolizes an abundant harvest.

01:03Creating this artwork was no easy task.

01:21Crafting these miniatures requires precise movement,

01:24good eyesight and a lot of patience.

01:27And of course, the courage to overcome countless mistakes.

01:31And it's not just the figures that are delicate.

01:34The tools Chen uses are as well.

01:37They have all been customized by him,

01:40and remarkably, they remain in excellent condition

01:43even after decades of use.

01:58Other than creating these sculptures,

02:00Chen is also a calligrapher,

02:02who writes characters on tiny items,

02:05including insect wings and rice.

02:32and this process has taught him a valuable lesson.
