00:00Southern Taiwan is picking up the pieces after tropical storm Komei unleashed torrents of rain
00:05triggering floods and landslides. Many have been forced to evacuate and daily life has ground to
00:11a halt as schools and businesses shut down. Our reporter Irene Lin is near Tainan, the hardest
00:18hit area, and joins us live. Irene, what's the situation where you are? Hi, Laura. We're in
00:26Hobi Township in Tainan in one of the most impacted areas in southern Taiwan by the tropical storm
00:32Komei. Now, it has brought rocket-breaking rain just three weeks after Typhoon Janos tore through
00:39southern Taiwan, ripping off roofs and causing traffic halts in the city. Now, the tropical storm
00:45has moved on, but this part of Taiwan is still seeing on and off rains, and the floodwater has
00:51receded in the past 24 hours, but the wreckage from the pouring rain and the flooding on Monday
00:58can still be seen throughout the city. Now, since this morning, about a dozen military men have come
01:03in to assist with the cleanup. We saw them picking up fallen branches and picking up leaves that are
01:09clogging the drains to prevent further flooding. But on private properties, the local residents are
01:14left to clean up their own flooded homes themselves. We've been talking to some of the local residents
01:20here and got to see how bad the damage was in their house. Take a look.

02:01We're seeing an increasingly unpredictable storm path in this typhoon season.
02:06They're hitting parts of the west coast that are usually spared of the worst of storms.
02:13Thanks, Irene. That was Irene Lin reporting from southern Taiwan.
