A brace from Alexander Isak and a goal from Sandro Tonali secured a 3-1 win for Newcastle United against Southampton.

00:00So here we are in the media room at Southampton and we're going to reflect on Newcastle United's 3-1 win here at Southampton this afternoon.

00:09A comfortable victory overall, albeit it may not have been that at the end but we'll come on to that.

00:17I thought it was a good start by Newcastle in the game but they fell behind through Jan Bednarek's header on the 10th minute.

00:25But Newcastle managed to swiftly equalise around 16 minutes later when Alexander Isaac is fouled by Joe Uribe in the area.

00:34Referee Sam Barrett initially waved away Newcastle's penalty appeals but they intervened.

00:40Barrett was then sent over to the pitchside to monitor, review the decision and point on the spot.

00:45Isaac, cool as you like to score to make it 1-1 and then not long after Isaac makes it 2-1.

00:52Great run by Jacob Murphy and what a touch by Alexander Isaac to break through the defender.

01:43It looked set up to make a nervy finish but they all came to Newcastle's rescue

01:48and the game shouldn't have really ended in a nervy finish.

01:51It felt like it was comfortable for Newcastle and if it had been a nervy finish

01:56then they would have been their own worst enemies in that regard

01:59but they avoided that and seen out a crucial three points.

02:03Newcastle returned to winning ways after that defeat at Bournemouth last week.

02:10They had 10 wins and 11 in all competitions so it was really important that they came here today and got a result.

02:17It was a potential banana skin I thought.

02:20Southampton rocked bottom of the league one win all season, hadn't won in the last 12 Premier League games.

02:25The goal they scored here today was only their 8th goal of the season.

02:29It felt like Newcastle saw a past history with playing against struggling teams.

02:34Sheffield United a couple of seasons ago caused Derby Canada from a season where they finished with 9 points

02:38and they took 4 points off Newcastle.

02:40Those statistics didn't support us as much as those title results

02:43but Newcastle avoided that today and got a deserved 3 points.

02:47Manchester City and Chelsea were all in the press room.

02:51Manchester City went into a 1-0 win and Newcastle dropped out of the top 4.

02:55They moved back in that momentarily after a full time but they're still in the European picture.

03:01They just need to keep on winning games.

03:04It was really important that they came here today and got back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

03:09You can put Bournemouth defeat down to what was a blip.

03:13Everyone had an incredible run of the time, 9 wins in a row.

03:18They came here today and got 3 points and that is the most important thing.

03:23Reflecting on a couple of stand-out performances, Isaac of course.

03:37I thought Sandro Tonnoli in the middle of the midfield was excellent.

03:43He was probably the best of three midfielders.

03:46There were some good performances out there.

03:49Newcastle have got class players, better players than Southampton.
