My name is Luke Perry and I'm a public monument sculptor in the Black Country
00:03
and the project that we're working on at the moment is something that's very
00:08
close to my heart and that is about reserved occupationists. So in the Second
00:11
World War there were some people whose jobs were so critical to the actual war
00:17
effort that they weren't allowed to be conscripted or to go off and fight
00:21
themselves. These were people everything from agriculture to policemen to all
00:27
sorts of things but particularly in this area it were people like chain and
00:31
anchor makers and we've been able to get a grant from the Arts Council to make a
00:35
piece of artwork and to do community engagement to share the idea of who
00:39
these amazing people were and also to make a piece of artwork about this and
00:44
to showcase how important a part of the history that is. But what I'm looking for
00:50
is for people to contact me on mr.l.perry at gmail.com or to go on to my
00:57
website which is ihsartworks.com and to get in touch if they have any stories
01:03
about reserved occupationists or their family were and that'll be people who
01:07
were working within the metal industry in this area from 1939 to 1945 so that's
01:13
mr.l.perry at gmail.com or ihsartworks.com or of course
01:19
alternatively Luke Perry Sculptor on Instagram so thanks very much and I hope
01:25
to hear from you
