Let me, you know, you look at Torrey this week,
00:02
and this is different this week, guys.
00:03
They go Wednesday to Saturday,
00:05
not the traditional Thursday to Sunday
00:08
with what the coverage that they're gonna have.
00:10
Playing these early tournaments,
00:12
whether it was you played or the guys playing now,
00:15
how weird is it and different
00:16
when you have to play these events
00:18
where you're playing three courses,
00:20
like last week, BJ West, two courses this week,
00:23
two courses at Pebble.
00:25
What does that do for you prep-wise, getting ready?
00:28
What is that like?
00:29
Well, that's when experience really matters.
00:31
You know, the guys that have played these events
00:33
year after year, there's value in that,
00:35
and especially at the American Express
00:36
where you play three courses like you just talked about,
00:39
but playing three golf courses,
00:41
preparing for that in Palm Springs,
00:43
and then driving up the road to San Diego,
00:46
and then you gotta learn two more golf courses.
00:48
So for the rookies, it's already a very difficult start
00:51
to the year.
00:52
You know, you're trying to get your feet wet
00:53
and you're learning all of these golf courses.
00:55
So with that being said, it's a good point.
00:57
But for me as a player, when I was on the tour,
01:00
I always felt like their year really started in San Diego.
01:03
It just felt like, you know,
01:05
the crowds there were always incredible.
01:08
It's a really, you know, you can have U.S. Opens out there
01:11
like we've seen some of the more famous golf tournaments,
01:14
and you typically have a really good finish at Torrey Pines.
01:17
It's almost pretty much guaranteed.
01:18
You turn around on Sunday and something cool
01:20
is gonna happen on that 18th hole.
01:21
So it's gonna be a fun week,
01:24
but it's not as strong of a field
01:26
as we typically would see,
01:28
and we've seen a lot of top players pulling out,
01:29
mainly because they don't wanna play Torrey Pines
01:32
two out of three weeks, which is what it would be.
01:36
Yeah, you were just mentioning Xander, Colin Morikawa,
01:39
a few other guys have all backed out for this week,
01:42
but we do have some names here, Smiley.
01:44
Ludvig's gonna play, you have Matsuyama.
01:47
I mean, Sanjay plays every week,
01:49
so it's hard to say Sanjay.
01:50
You can never not find Sanjay at a tournament.
01:52
Finau's playing, Jason Day off of playing
01:54
really well last week.
01:55
So still some good names.
01:57
Who are you looking at for the farmers this week
02:00
out at Torrey?
02:02
Well, I got a bone to pick with Sung J.M.
02:03
He was my pick last week at the Amex.
02:05
I mean, he had finished top 25 in that event
02:09
every single year.
02:11
He made so many birdies when I was on the coverage
02:14
watching him at the first, you know, in Kapalua,
02:18
and I'm just thinking, man, he's rested.
02:20
He's gonna go out, have a great week,
02:22
and just lays an egg on me and just misses the cut.
02:25
Who I have my eye on, that's a great question.
02:27
Ludvig's a great start.
02:28
This is a golf course.
02:30
You want guys that can hit it long,
02:31
but carry it a long way, that are strong enough
02:34
to get it out of the thick rough.
02:35
You know, Harris Singlish is always the guy
02:37
that you gotta look at this week.
02:38
I know he's the guy that you don't look at,
02:41
maybe undervalued a lot of weeks,
02:43
but this week in particular, he's always played well here.
02:46
I start at the driver and work your way back.
02:49
Tony Finau's another player.
02:52
If he could putt well, which he did at Kapalua, like him.
02:55
There's some under the radar guys,
02:56
like Jake Knapp, who played well there last year.
02:58
Hadn't really gotten it quite going
03:01
since the West Coast last year,
03:02
but he loves this golf course.
03:04
He's a player that could play well,
03:05
and like really under the radar
03:07
is a guy named Trey Mullinax.
03:10
Hits it as far as anybody,
03:11
and has had some success in this golf course
03:14
coming off of surgery this past year.
