00:00The Agriculture Department reiterated that the supply of rice in the country is sufficient.

00:05According to the DA, the reason for the lack of supply is that the Food Security Emergency will be declared.

00:12Assistant Secretary Arnald de Mesa, the spokesperson of the DA, explained,

00:16under the Rice Tarification Law, there are two grounds or bases for declaring a Food Security Emergency.

00:23First, the shortage of supply.

00:25Second, when there is an extraordinary increase in the price of rice.

00:29The agency first noticed the extraordinary increase in the price of imported rice in the market.

00:36That is why, starting tomorrow, the maximum suggested retail price of Php 58 per kilo for imported rice will be effective.
