00:00For some, for others the postseason has ended and specifically Sam Darnold.

00:07And I thought it would be kind of good to move off of our quarterbacks playing today

00:10to go to Sam because, you know, there's some offseason news that we need to hit.

00:15And the news around Darnold is one that I'm gonna go crazy about, quite frankly, and end

00:22up having to rip some team.

00:25We've heard reports, we've seen reports that Darnold could still be making $30 million

00:32annually on the open market despite the disastrous close to his regular season.

00:41Maybe we shouldn't harp on that.

00:43Maybe those rumors are off base.

00:45But just, Lisa, where are you at right now on Sam Darnold?

00:50Is this a guy that you think a team should be willing to give a chance to be their day

00:54one, week one starter next season?

00:56No, not if they have playoff aspirations and the ability to potentially win an AFC or an

01:02NFC championship.

01:03No.

01:04And the reason why I say that is he was a compiler during the regular season and got

01:07exposed in terms of the two biggest games on their resume at the end of the year by

01:12Detroit and that Monday night performance by against LA.

01:16I mean a deer in the headlights.

01:17He looked like a rookie quarterback as opposed to an eight or nine year veteran.

01:22And the fact that he held on to the football, the throws that he made in terms of that matchup,

01:26I just can't back in.

01:28Whatever he found for the first 15 games or 16 games of the regular season, the Fountain

01:35of Youth or whatever he was riding high on, that Cinderella slipper struck midnight really

01:40quick.

01:41And if you're an organization looking to get back on track, you can't buy in long term

01:46to Sam Darnold.

01:47Is he a bridge quarterback?

01:48Is he somebody that maybe on a losing organization could potentially groom a rookie quarterback?

01:54Yes.

01:55But expecting him to be like Baker Mayfield for the money, 25, 30 million, because that's

02:01what Tampa Bay got Bayfield on.

02:03And Mayfield is leading his team to potentially not only playoff wins, but challenging for

02:09division titles.

02:10I think it would be a horrible investment.

02:12We saw the best of Sam Darnold during the regular season, serviceable quarterback, high

02:17end offensive coordinator, the best wide receiver in football and a competent game

02:21plan he can execute.

02:22But understand this.

02:23I don't think there's a football team out there that in their offseason is going to

02:26fire up their fan base by saying, we finally got our franchise quarterback.

02:29It's Sam Darnold.

02:30Which brings me to the next conversation is, he doesn't have to be a starter for me.

02:34He would be a wonderful backup quarterback to a really good football team.

02:38Case in point, a team like the Kansas City Chiefs.

02:40Carson Wentz is there.

02:41We love him.

02:42Sam Darnold will be an upgrade.

02:43But answer me out on this.

02:45If Patrick Mahomes goes down, you're probably not winning the Super Bowl anyway.

02:48But if Patrick Mahomes goes down and misses two to three weeks, he's as good as it gets

02:52as a backup quarterback to step up and say, I was a high draft pick.

02:55I have a lot of talent.

02:56I performed in regular season games.

02:57I can hold the fort down till our superstar quarterback comes back.

03:01That's where I think he fits in.

03:02And that's not a bad option for him.

03:04You're talking about a guy that's banked some pretty good coin already and can have another

03:0610 year run in the NFL by being a very good backup quarterback.

03:10No, he should not be a starting quarterback anywhere in the NFL next year, any way, shape

03:15or form.

03:16Or unless Joe says as a bridge quarterback.

03:17But to get him to be your starter and his agent goes like, hey, he's a starter, man.

03:21Twenty, thirty million dollars.

03:22Right.

03:23That's the going price for a good starting quarterback.

03:24No, I don't think he should get that at all.

03:26Maybe Cleveland and I know Tennessee has the number one pick, but but a team like that

03:30that is just dead and buried and you're just looking to get back off off the mat.

03:35Sam Darnold could start.
