00:00To say the least, those handling probably the biggest government infrastructure project in recent memory

00:05are taking a huge step in completing this mega project within the set target.

00:10Thus, the tunnel boring machine for the Metro Manila Subway project was launched today,

00:14signaling the start of tunneling works for what many perceive as a big help towards easing traffic flows in the metropolis.

00:22PTV's Patrick Desus has more.

00:25The tunnel boring machine has been launched at the Camp Aguinaldo station of the Metro Manila Subway project.

00:32With this, tunneling works for Contract Package 103 of the so-called Project of the Century will now begin.

00:39Contract Package 103, awarded to Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Company,

00:44is part of the seven civil works contract packages of the subway project.

00:48CP-103 covers the Camp Aguinaldo and Anonas stations.

00:53This P21.1 billion peso contract has a total route length of 6.6 kilometers

01:03with tunnels connecting Quezon City to Pasig City.

01:08We are again deeply grateful to the government of Japan, including the JICA,

01:15for their unwavering support to this subway project.

01:19The AFP has expressed its support for the project and hopes the Camp Aguinaldo station of the subway will be beneficial.

01:27For the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Camp Aguinaldo station means more than enhanced mobility.

01:36It represents strategic advantage.

01:41Our soldiers, our civilian staff and their families will have increased access to reliable transit,

01:49allowing us to respond with greater speed and efficiency during emergencies.

01:56The Metro Manila Subway project is targeted for partial operation by 2029,

02:01spanning 33 kilometers with 17 stations from Valenzuela to FTI Bicutan in Taguig City.

02:09Once completed, it is expected to serve half a million commuters.

02:13Efforts to address right-of-way concerns for the project are ongoing.

02:17Our right-of-way will be lowered as low as 47 meters.

02:24Because of the terrain and also in order to assuage the fears.

02:38Recently also, a large portion of Mindanao Avenue was closed,

02:43a measure that will last until 2028 to make way for the construction of the Tandang Soray station of the Metro Manila Subway project.
