00:00With Delhi Assembly election approaching, the political landscape is also heating up.
00:16Today we are joined by a very senior leader from Indian National Congress to discuss the
00:22challenges and reason behind BJP's absence in power in Delhi elections for almost three
00:27decades.
00:28I want to ask why BJP has struggled in winning Delhi Assembly seats despite winning all seven
00:36seats in Lok Sabha elections?
00:38There are reasons.
00:41Earlier BJP was very strong in Delhi when Vaishya and Punjabis were in majority or were
00:52in dominant position.
00:54But with the space of time, their number has been overnumbered, outnumbered by influx from
01:06UP, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan.
01:11So thus their population has increased.
01:16They come here for job, come here for coaching, education and various other opportunities.
01:26That's one thing.
01:28Second thing is that normally common people, rural people, common people do not vote for
01:39BJP.
01:42And the composition of population of Delhi very late has been like this.
01:49And thirdly that Muslims and Dalits, their number has increased many fold.
01:55So they also don't vote for BJP.
01:58That is also reason.
01:59They think that it is a party of rich people and communal party.
02:09And also the reason is that people here are for to earn bread and butter, not to indulge
02:18in politics.
02:20So what happened that those who can mobilize them more, like free electricity, free water,
02:32it has worked.
02:34And free bus, etc.
02:36That is one of the reasons.
02:38So because of demographic change in Delhi, BJP is out.
02:43But when it comes to Lok Sabha election, situation gets changed.
02:49In Lok Sabha election, local party, Aam Aadmi Party is not directly an alternative to BJP.
02:57It's Congress which is an alternative to BJP.
03:01So what happened?
03:03The anti-BJP votes get polarized or go behind Congress.
03:10And that is how Aam Aadmi Party doesn't perform well in Lok Sabha election.
03:16Congress performs better than that.
03:18And BJP is a winning party.
03:22And BJP wins for the reason that it is a very well-organized machinery.
03:30Any strategy Congress is planning for the Delhi Assembly elections, like to have a change
03:35in Delhi?
03:36Certainly.
03:37Of course, yesterday a meeting was held at Swayalampur.
03:42That is a very thickly populated, Muslim populated area.
03:47And it's a huge number.
03:50And this time we have made our social justice plans main base or main slogan.
04:01So certainly we will do better this year.
04:06In your opinion, why do voters not vote for BJP in Delhi Assembly elections, but in Lok
04:13Sabha elections they want BJP in power?
04:16What happened that Aam, local, they vote for Aam Aadmi Party not for ideology, for
04:27the personal gain.
04:29I said that free electricity, water, and buses, et cetera.
04:35These are the things.
04:36It's not that it's ideological.
04:39BJP has ideology, Congress has ideology.
04:43But the masses which have come from outside for bread and butter, they look for their
04:53personal gain.
04:55And personal gain they get from Aam Aadmi Party.
