00:00Guys, thanks for having me on here. I don't want it to get lost in the sauce.
00:04Sheila is the foundation, the fundamental reason for the instigation, all this change we all spent.
00:11And you guys have spent a lot longer time than I have rooting for this team, hoping for success.
00:15I don't want it to get lost in the sauce that Sheila is the reason for all this.
00:19And you guys play the drop all the time. It's hilarious.
00:22The first time she ever got up in front of the fans and to bring Calvin and Barry back
00:25and put Calvin in the Ring of Honor, to get in front of those fans
00:29when her mother and father never did for decades,
00:32and just wear the merciless impatience of the fans as they booed her up there.
00:38She deserves a lot of commendation for having the courage to get up there and do that,
00:43to stick to her guns when things didn't go right at the start.
00:46And I'm asking you right now, Sheila Ford Hamp, please pay these men as much as a head coach.
00:53Keep them around. Last I checked on Google, there is no salary cap for coaches.
00:58And they're the most sought-after coaches in the league.
01:00Make them feel valued. Make them stay here.
01:03I'm saying this from the bottom of my heart, guys.
01:05We have a dynastic opportunity. Let's make it work. Thank you, guys.
01:08It'd be awesome, and we'd all be on board.
01:11It's not our money to spend, and of course, we are allowed to spend it.
01:15I'd love to keep them, but here's what you can't maybe put a price on sometimes,
01:19and that's what somebody's ambition is.
01:21You don't know what their lifelong goals are and their lifelong dreams are.
01:24And if it's to be a head football coach in the NFL, and that opportunity is there for them,
01:29cheer them on and go get that.
01:32Of course you'd like them to stay, and if money is the deciding factor,
01:37then let money be the deciding factor, I guess.
01:40But you can't stop somebody from reaching for their goals.
01:45No, and I made her my champ at a weekend yesterday,
01:50and I go back to the date was October.
01:54This doesn't feel like that long ago.
01:56It feels like eons ago, and yet on the calendar it's not that long ago.
01:59I'm looking at a story from October 26th of 2022, okay?
02:06And her quote is,
02:07We've got 11 more games to go, so I just don't want to ruin it.
02:10Push the panic button. Give up the ship.
02:12Because I think we've got the right people in place to pull this off,
02:15and I truly believe that.
02:17And I wouldn't say that if I didn't believe it.
02:21And this was her stepping in front of the media.
02:25Another quote,
02:26We're going to turn this thing around the right way.
02:29This is October 26th of 2022.
02:32And then they went 8-3.
02:34At the time, the Detroit Lions were 1-5.
02:38And lost the next game.
02:39Lost the next game.
02:40And then went 8-2.
02:41Yep.
02:42Then 12-5.
02:4415-2.
02:45And they have been an absolute juggernaut ever since.
02:48And, you know, she,
02:51I've told this story before,
02:53so I apologize if it's repeat for some people,
02:56but, you know, when she put Calvin,
02:59I think it was when they put Calvin into the Ring of Honor,
03:02and she went out there to introduce him,
03:04and she got booed.
03:05Oh, yeah.
03:06And I was told that, you know, she left,
03:09she stood there and took it, left,
03:11walked underneath, and you could tell it hurt.
03:14Now, whether that meant there were tears in her eyes,
03:16or whether, I don't know.
03:17I don't know.
03:18I just was told by an observer that was there
03:20that they said you could tell that it hurt her.
03:22And she kind of expected it was coming.
03:25But it was her job as the owner of the team
03:28to go out and to properly honor Calvin.
03:30And let's just say that this team is on the brink
03:34of bringing her cheers.
03:36I mean, like, perhaps never, ever before, right?
03:42No.
03:43And, look, you know how I feel about her as an owner,
03:46that I absolutely 100% believe
03:48that she's the catalyst of what happened.
03:50Because it's an extreme departure
03:53from what had happened prior to her taking over.
03:58You know, the fact that she's a woman I think matters
04:02because it breaks all the stereotypes that were out there
04:05that, oh, great, so the daughter's going to take over the team.
04:09Great.
04:10You know, and the fans want the Fords to sell the team
04:12for this, right?
04:13No.
04:14She took over because she had genuine interest
04:18in running the Detroit Lions.
04:20That's what she wanted to do.
04:22And all she's done since then is prove to everybody
04:27just how dedicated she is and how serious she is
04:29and made the right decisions and who she surrounded herself with,
04:32who she hired, and then, you know,
04:34trust those people to present her with options
04:37of who then should be the next hires.
04:39And it's worked out brilliantly.
04:41And she deserves a ton of the credit.
04:43When you get the big slice of pie or cake
04:46and you want to divvy it up,
04:47then I think she gets the biggest slice
04:49because she's the one that started it.
04:51Okay.
04:52Here's more.
04:53And again, this is from The Athletic.
04:54This is what she said that day.
04:56I know this is difficult.
04:57All right.
04:58So they are one and five.
04:59It's year two.
05:01I know this is difficult.
05:02Our rebuild is hard.
05:04We really believe in our process.
05:06We really believe in we're going to turn this thing
05:08around the right way through the draft.
05:10It requires patience.
05:12It's frustrating.
05:14Am I frustrated?
05:15Absolutely.
05:16Are the fans frustrated?
05:17Absolutely.
05:18But I think we're really making progress.
05:20You know, you've seen it.
05:21It's just this was a huge teardown and then turnaround, you know,
05:25and we really were only a third of the way through the season.
05:28We got 11 more games to go.
05:29And then, I mean,
05:31it's so funny looking back because what she said is now what we're all,
05:37what we're all saying and what I guess everybody hoped is that, yeah,
05:40we've got a draft Ninja who's crushed it.
05:43It does take patience.
05:45And they did turn it around.
05:47And, you know,
05:50we were doing shows for all that time and the great,
05:53one of the great parts about Dan Campbell is that he's one of one right
05:58now.
05:59You see, there was a, there was a,
06:02a preseason speech that the head coach in Arizona made and people are like,
06:10Ooh, this is his Dan Campbell moment.
06:12And I'm like, are they really doing that?
06:14Are people really doing that?
06:16And they are, they're looking for,
06:19for who's the next Dan Campbell and some writer in Arizona tried to comp
06:26Jonathan Gannon to Dan Campbell.
06:28And people are now, okay.
06:30Who's who's the next Dan Campbell because he was one of one.
06:33We got calls at the time saying nobody's done it like this,
06:38that you can't have this football caveman running a team.
06:45Who's done it.
06:46Who's one that with a guy like this and the best we could,
06:48I remember we'd be the best we came up with.
06:50It was kind of Ditka.
06:51Right.
06:52And, and,
06:53but Ditka was such a hard ass like Ditka wouldn't smile.
06:56Dan Campbell smiles.
06:58He laughs.
06:59He cries.
07:00He does it all with his team.
07:01It's it's he's,
07:03he is one of a kind,
07:05absolutely one of a kind.
07:07You can't come up with a comp.
07:09And,
07:10and like we go through these people call the time as I didn't believe or
07:13this,
07:14that,
07:15and the other,
07:16and they still have work to do.
07:17Let's be clear.
07:18You,
07:19nobody needs to apologize or feel bad for that because we'd seen different
07:22things tried over and over and over again.
07:24And being skeptical of the lions,
07:25it's okay.
07:26It's okay.
07:27It's okay.
07:28And it's great now to see,
07:31to see what's going on.
07:33It's just it's just remarkable.
