00:00Of all the questions that we had going into the preseason

00:04Many of them aren't going to get answered because the starters aren't playing

00:08Some of them are starting to get answered

00:10Henden hooker and Jake Bates in particular are starting to answer the question Jake Bates

00:17Consistency is a thing and that won't be played out till over time. I mean he did miss an extra point

00:22Henden hooker, you know, he's playing against a bunch of guys who won't be in the league

00:28You know, he looks good while doing it. I

00:31Don't know that he will get a chance to ever play against people who will be in the league

00:35But he certainly his performance on Saturday warrants a start this coming Saturday

00:39I would think against against players that are battling for spots. Yeah, I would think so. I think hooker should start and give

00:47Really kind of solidify his standing there and really Nate Sudfeld playing a lot of catch-up at this point. I mean

00:54Sudfeld made some let's be clear Nate Sudfeld was better this last week than he was the previous week

00:59All right, he definitely made an improvement

01:01that's just with getting more comfortable with another week of practice and knowing that he was gonna play and

01:07Keep in mind that he is coming back from injury and all that that being said

01:10He also made a couple of terrible passes, but the touchdown pass end up being 61 yards to Caden Davis

01:17It was it was a great pass was a great play nicely set up and nice

01:21Then it was blocked by DPJ on that and it looked it looked great

01:25but Hendon hooker was the one that you came away with going Wow with the exception of a bad exchange and maybe a

01:32Misfire on his second pass of the game out in the flat which would receive it looked like was pretty open

01:37Beyond that he looked really good. He looked calm look better and more comfortable in the pocket

01:44decision to take off and run he did he slid listen to mama got a slide and

01:49Overall look really good the touchdown run that he had

01:52yeah, I mean these are you see flashes and and things that he does that it's a different skill set than what our starting quarterback has

02:02Starting quarterback is starting quarterback for reasons. God

02:04I really liked it when he gets flushed out of the pocket keeps his eyes downfield

02:07Yep, and is able to buy himself a little bit extra time and find a receiver

02:12I think it was in one of the Isaiah Williams catches. He did push the ball downfield a little bit

02:17There was a lot of check down stuff

02:19I mean you get I feel like in the preseason if you just wanted to check down all day underneath

02:24You probably can there's no game planning

02:26Running backs are wide open receivers on crossing routes are wide open

02:30You could do that all the way down the field and I think Sudfeld did a lot of it and Hendon hooker at the beginning

02:36then he started to push the ball downfield had a

02:40Hit somebody on a slant I can't remember who it was

02:46Down and in to a receiver. I mean looked at

02:50You know again, these aren't guys that are likely to be in the league. Got it understood

02:55We all know that but he also both guys spread the ball around

02:59It wasn't like they were just locked in on one guy

03:01No, he's a William said the big game

03:03But there were a ton of receivers that they caught the football and that were targeted and when you're constantly running guys in and out

03:09Of the lineup the guys that you're trying to develop that chemistry with and practice and how do you do that?

03:14When when you have this many players there's many options

03:19You've got rotating offensive linemen coming in and out of the game and running backs and it's just it's not

03:24It's not the ideal situation to try to figure out who your backup is going to be

03:29When there's nothing that is set in stone in front of them except for the first unit

03:33Which you're not gonna get a chance to play with

03:35Likely ever unless it's a game situation and the quarterback gets hurt. Yeah

03:40He won't answer all the questions in the preseason

03:42But he is starting to make a strong case that maybe he will be capable of being a quality backup for Detroit

03:48He looked really good. He did really good and and which is what fans wanted to see you want to see it

03:53You don't get mad at you know, if Hendon hooker was the best player on the field at the end of that game

03:59Then that's what you want out of a high draft pick quarterback

04:02It doesn't check all the boxes, but you just can't you can't do that

04:07Until you see first-team defenses and you're just not going to in the preseason you really aren't so 2 4 8 5 3 9
