North East political leaders have clashed once again over plans to triple Northumberland’s housing targets. Under new targets set by the Government, the county will have to build 1,649 new homes a year in a bid to tackle the country’s housing crisis.

00:13Deputy Leader Councillor Richard Wearmouth accused North-East Mayor Kim McGuinness as being a doormat for the government.

00:19The Conservative-led administration at County Hall has heavily criticised the new targets,

00:24with Councillor Wearmouth stating

00:42The comments came after Labour Mayor McGuinness stated that the North-East faced a social housing emergency

00:47and in finding ways to complain about the target is not going to solve the problem.

00:51Ms McGuinness since responded, which included her stating as of last summer

00:55there were just over 14,000 people already on Northumberland's housing register.
